Does amp models' volume affect tone?

Curious as to wether changes to any given amp model's volume affects it tone characteristics or just volume?

I'm asking because I'd like to turn the DT25 head up louder for more power amp drive where the valves work harder, and can only see this as possible by reducing the HD500's pre models volume. Essentially turning 1 thing down to turn another up to get the same volume from the speakers a different way? Or maybe using the HD's mixer?

Pod HD500 for bass?

I'm not your average bass player. I love effects, but require that I can precisely tailor them to my playing style and the music being played. One of the biggest gripes I've had with Line 6's previous offerings was a woeful lack of flexibility and a less than ideal facility for shaping the frequency response of the effects I'd be mixing with my dry bass signal.

It would seem that with the HD500, you now offer something very close to what I require. My question, though, is can the pitch, synth effects and tuner in the HD500 operate down to a bass guitar's low B with gurgling, hiccuping or generally freaking out?

Alternately, are you guys thinking about updating the software of the X3 Pro so that it is as flexible in its effect routing as the HD500?

Honestly, what I'm looking for is something akin to Fractal Audio's AxeFX, but with a bassist's needs considered, too. AxeFX's pitch detector is useless below an E2.

One of my favorite things to do when playing in a power trio is kick in a pitch shifter set one octave up and run it through an amp simulation/distortion as well as a few effects when the guitarist goes on a solo. It would seem that I can now achieve this with one box. Oh, yeah!

Thanks,

jeff

Considering switch from DT 50 2X12 to pair of Tech 21 PE 60s

I am running a POD HD 500 into a DT 50 2X12, with a Dr Z Airbrake.

It sounds pretty good, and I'm sure with more tweaking, it can sound even better. I just got the amp back from the shop

after having the power transformer replaced (unfortunately out of warranty).

I was already a little tired of the weight factor of moving the combo around whenever I play, and since having to spend

over $200 (plus gas to drive 170 miles round trip) to the service center nearest me, I'm considering switching form the

DT to a pair of Tech 21 PE 60s, which would be lighter and allow for a stereo setup.

I would love to hear as many pros and cons for both options (switching or keeping the DT)

I am back with this topic!!!

I had a gig last week and my acoustic sound was poor compared to the other guitarist who is using Boss stuffs.

I use an ESP Horizon with Seymour JB pickups. The other guitarist uses the same pickups.

I tried a lot of things by using acoustic amp simulation but I am far than what the other guy achieves with his Boss multi-effect.

I know that Line 6 could answer that buying a Variax will fix the problem. I won't buy a Variax guitar.

So I am wondering if Line 6 has plan to add an Acoustic Simulator in the POD DH 500 stompboxes arsenal.

Here is where the problem starts.

I drag and drop the patch I want into the blank space on the "User2" menu of the Pod software programme,

the 500 says synching and the patch pops up where I dropped it on the pedal. Then when I disconnect the

usb lead all the patches are gone..Can someone point mein the right direction, how do I make them stick.

more questions to come, hope this isn't too retarded a question.

Cheers Rich
