If you don't eat your meat ...

... you can't have your pudding - or better known as "Another Brick In the Wall".

I have recorded yesterday the guitarparts to this song which my Band is currently trying to enlight. I did the recording with my new Cubase Artist 7 - Version.

The playback I have used is not that bad (Vocals, Keyboard, Bass, Drums). And I recorded 2 Rhytm guitars and 1 Leadpart.

I needed to record the Solopart about 20 times until it sounded somehow okay to me. David Gilmour is a real wizzard when it comes to bending (2 tone bendings). And if you need more horny skin on your finger tips: exercise the leadpart and you will get it!

I have just started to dive into the Solopart. Getting the feeling, the sound of Gilmour and letting the song breathing without playing too much is what the song is all about. Not real there at the moment. But as I am a great Gilmour fan, I will nail that (I hope so).

For the clean parts I have used my standard Amp BF Double (= Fender Twin Reverb) and the JTV69 with magnetic PUs in position 2.

For the guitarpart which partially dublicates the vocal phrases, I have used the Treadplate Amp model (= Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier).

For the Gilmor Leadsound I tend to use the Marshall Plexi Lead 100 (I think he played HIWATT Amps in the 70s if I remember correctly). The Leadpart is also played with the magnetic PUs on the JTV69 in position 5.

I tried to be as close as possible to the Solo in the initial part. Later I am improvising more in the Gilmour style.

To add a little more sustain to Clean to Gain Solo parts I tend to use the Overdrive Pedal with a Drive level of 20-35% pre amp. The Overdrive pedal keeps more the original sound of the amp than a distortion pedal to me.

I also used some other effects: 2 reverbs and 1 delay post amp:

Hall-Reverb (20% mix) ---> Dynamic delay (60% Mix) ---> Cave Reverb (3-5% Mix if I remeber correctly).

The presets are purely for the recording. And I use the Full amp models. From my HD500 I connect to an Audiointerface (TASCAM). For Live performance (in general pre amp models of the HD500 together with my DT50) the rig and the presets are different. The amp models and effects will be the same. But the parameters will very likely vary significantly. That is my experience from other songs in past.

http://www.soundclick.com/player/single ... i&newref=1

I am wondering what amp models and FXs are you using for a Gilmourish guitar sound. Any tips ??????????????

Thanks for reading and listening - any feedbacks are welcome!

DT50 head cabinet- Behringer Acousic Combo?

I've got a DT50 head on the way- used at 665, I feel like I stole it. I'm going to set it up to where acoustic patches go to an acoustic amp's direct in through the FX loop out of the pod to the fx in of the amp- hate to lose stereo, but it'll be worth it. The thing is I don't have another cabinet to use for the DT50 head. Eventually I'll get the big 4x12 cabinet made for it- meanwhile can anybody tell me yes or no on how good an idea it is to use the acoustic speakers? I can go direct into them, skipping the acoustic amp, and they are apparently powered with 60 watts as it is. I don't want anything to hold anybody to, just want to know if I need to scrape up the money for the DT25 1x12 cabinet now or if I might could get by with my amp and upgrade later.

http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/ACX1000.aspx

HD500 + DT25 + L2t via L6-Link / L2t speakermodes are not stored !!!

I use a hd500 + 2x DT25 + 1x Stagesource L2t All devices have the lastest firmware. When I use the hd500 alone with the L2t, the hd500 via L6-Link stores the Smart Speaker mode and can recall it. But when I use the hd500 + DT25(chan1) + DT25(chan2) + L2t(chan3)(last in L6 chain), then it's not possible to store or recall a speaker mode. Can you check it, if this is a bug ? Sound via L6-Link is ok !!!

Here is the response from L6-suport:

Hey Stefan,

After thoroughly testing a POD HD500 with (2) DT50 2x12's and a L3t speaker, the behavior you are experience is normal and intended.

When connecting the POD HD500 directly to the StageSource speaker, you can save speakers modes to accommodate the many different types of input sources you could use with a POD HD500, maybe a vocal or acoustic guitar in which case you would want the speaker on 'reference. Another example, might be someone who plugs in a bass or keyboard into the POD HD500, might want to use the 'keyboard' speaker mode.

However when you incorporate the DT series in the L6 Link chain, the POD HD senses that you are playing electric guitar and turns the StageSource speaker into a second guitar amp for you, enabling you to create dual tones with dedicated sets of speakers for each. When you send the L6 link signal from the DT to the StageSource, the StageSource is receiving a 'preamp only' type of signal that sounds terrible on any other speaker mode other then 'electric guitar'. So for this reason, the StagesSource will always default to 'electric guitar' when sensing and receiving L6 Link input from a DT.

-Don

Customer Support

Line 6

Hello Don

Thank you for the quick response.

There are two remarks from my side.

First my L2t switches always to PA mode and not to Electric guitar.

Second i want to use the L2t with my acoustic guitar and therefore i mute my two DT25's and then i want to use the L2M alone in the acoustic mode.

I think this is the common reason for using the DT together with the L2t.

Finally i think it's a limitation, which should be fixed in a future firmware update.

Do you agree with me?

Thanks

Hey Stefan,

I agree with you that this doesn't act as we would expect it to. I escalated these findings to our test lab, who is current investigating this issue. Thanks again for bringing it to our attention.

For now you will have to manually switch the speaker mode in between songs, as the POD HD won't automatically switch the speaker mode.

My hopes is that this can be corrected in a upcoming firmware update. Please hang tight and stayed tuned for updates.

-Don

Customer Support

Line 6

The Absolute Best Dream Rig Live Tones

But I feel that there needs to be a specific mention of Paul and his Pod tones. First, the tones are USUABLE in a live setting. Pauls tones make your guitar sound like a guitar instead of some crazy space ship lost in some cosmic sloppy reverb nebula!

Second, well...
Wet/Dry/Wet Rig with DT25 & L3t's???

The idea is to run from my JTV69 into the HD500, out to the dry DT25 combo and 112 ext cab and run 2 L3t's on either side for the wet. Switch between 2 basic sounds on the DT25 and hit the front with pedals (from the HD500) and use the L3t's to run other amp/cab combinations. Is this possible and can I control it all from the HD500?

What else (besides type/class/etc.) does the HD500 control on the DT amps?

I went through a little exercise of getting all clean average tones (5% Drive, 50% all other tone stack controls) from all preamp models and compare them to the default tone stack setting for each preamp. It did not seem to be too difficult to balance them all using USB out and a DAW meter. I recorded a short loop in pre position, dialed in the the 5/50 settings and adjusted channel volume to match -12dB (an arbitrary, but hot value). If I could not get to the -12dB output level I added 1 or 2 Mid Focus EQs with a tone neutral setting and dialed in gain as needed. Then I did the same with the default preamp settings. For those usually the channel volume was sufficeint to get to -12dB. For some I needed 1 Mid Focus EQ with a little gain.

After a good hour my tone bank with 60 preamp settings was ready and I carried my HD500 from my computer room to a DT-25. Hooked them up via Line 6 Link and started checking the sounds. For the first few clean Fender preamps and a couple more type I's everything sounded nice and level, but I had a few stragglers that were louder (e.g., BF Lux Norm), some less even louder, and a few incredibly louder.

'Obviously' I must have missed a gain setting or did not reset the meter to check max between tones. So I went back on the computer with the HD and rechecked everything. I had to re-record a loop and that obviously did not quite match the level of my first loop. Things were a little off from my first pass and I found a few preamps that I missed to correctly adjust, but what I found wrong did not match the preamps that where louder or really loud. I could not find any differences in output settings, mixer, Link 6 channel routing and for every tone i checked the USB ouput level was the same within 0.2dB. Tone output volume on the DT was still all over the place when I checked all preamps with the DT.

First I suspected the looper and my ability to reliably produce a consistent input signal. It is tricky, but in retrospect it seems to do the trick. But before I came to that conclusion I used a signal generator, dial in a square wave to get more than 1 frequency, set it to 0 dB and hooked it up to AUX. First suprise: If i pass this signal through the HD500 w/o effects and disabled Amp i get only -18dB out on the USB (when I was using my JTV/Variax I got about -12dB). To stay comparable I added another Mid Focus EQ between input and Amp and dialed in 6dB gain. Now the looper is out of the picture ... but the problem is the same. USB says all tones are balanced but if you hook the HD up to teh DT there are some amps that are just louder and some are much louder (I'd guess 12-18dB).

Obviously the amp type and class come into play, but the effect occurs even beteen the group of amps using the same type and class or it occurs when all preamps are set to use the same type and class (the DT-25 does not have those extra amp controls teh DT-50 has, at least they say).

So if its not the power amp type or class and if the HD digital output signal sent via Line 6 Link is the same as on USB (I doubt Line 6 would scale it on a per preamp basis) the HD500 must send some additional controls to the DT with the amp type/class selection. After checking whether its channel volume (it seems uncorrelated) my top runner is the Drive control. A couple spot experiments using 0, 20, 40, 60, 80 % Drive and adjusting Channel volume so that the output on USB is always -12dB seem to confirm that the DT power amp section will use Drive setting information from the HD to adjust the DT amplification (and possibly signal quality). Maybe the Drive setting is also part of the power amplification stage. I did not find any hint in the DT or HD documentation that this is in fact what occurs or something else that explains the effect. Anyway, I think one cannot balance tone volume using the HD alone via USB even if preamp type and class are the same. By the way I did some earlier measurements to determine the amp type, class, and pentode/triode selection impact. It is significant but not as large as the Drive setting, I now think.

Anybody out there with more insight or a better explanation?

Martin

Where are the Sean Halley Patches For The Dream Rig

I noticed in the Custom Tone page has a few Sean Halley patches for the Pod Hd 500. I was wondering if there were some Sean Halley Dream Rig specific tones we could download.

Specifically the tones used on the Line 6 "Dream Rig" Demo-Sweetwater Sound on Youtube. If you pause the video, there is a patch named "Sean Live DRAC30" also "Wet Chords DT25" and "SW Acc 1" and "SW Acc 2" Where are those? Can we get them? Do they really exist or is there a mic'd Two Rock amp hiding behind the Line 6 curtain?

Dream Rig - Conections and Best live setup

Hello, I have recently completed my Dream Rig setup wich consist of a JTV69+HD500+DT25, Overall I am very satisfied and pleased with it, I consider myself a Pro Musician with regular gigging every weekend and been doing so for about 20 years, so i have some experience with equipment.

This time i decided to give this forum a shot with some questions and to request some advice about the "Best Way" to conect my Dream rig and be able to get the best of it, before i get to the point with my "issues" i have to mention that i have read and watched every document, thread and video that i could find out there and still i am a little confused. and, sorry if some of these questions sound stupid..

So, this is what i need help understanding:

- I have conected my HD500 to the DT25 via the L6 Link so i can control the amp settings.

now, when doing this, the correct global output of the HD500 should be set to what?

- Before purchasing the DT25 I use to have the global output setting on the HD500 set to Studio/Direct and get a balanced XLR out to the FOH Mixer, no amp, this worked well for me, but now that i have added the DT25 and changed the output on the global settings to AMP and using all my amp models on PRE (Right?) How do i get a signal to the FOH? Still Through the balanced XLR outputs?

-Now, using the DT25, I have not figured out how to take advantage of the wonderful acoustic sounds from my JTV69 and how to get them through the FOH and not through the amp.

Sorry if this sounds confusing but in summary:

What is the Best way to get the full advantage of the Dream Rig and get the most of it onstage and on the FOH?

What are the correct Settings for the HD500?

Should i use all my modeled Amps in the HD500 as PRE and conect to my DT25 ONLY through the L6 Link?

How do i get the Acoustic and Rezo sounds to sound Rigth in both, Onstage and FOH?

Is there a Video o Tutorial that someone can recomend that explain all this on detail?

All help will be greatly appreciated, thanks for reading.

JT Variax "stuck" in acoustic model setting?

I'll start by saying I'm fairly new to this whole thing, but I have the Whole Enchilada, as it were--JTV, POD HD500, HDT24 amp--and it's all updated with the most curent firmware, daisychained together correctly, JTV battery fully charged ... for whatever reason, I can't switch models on the guitar. At all. With or without the "dream rig' all connected. I fear that my Variax is toast after less than 60 days. The horror of having to ship the thing somewhere terrifies me. Anyone encountered the same or similar problem? I don't know what to do at this point.

Michael
