Support Ticket: CPU-spikes

Dear Line6,

A support ticket was opened for me over a month ago and I haven't had a respons up to now. When can I expect an answer?

Regards,

Rene

    Hi Rene,

The last time we set this up we weren't able to reproduce but we'll keep trying. I meet with QA every Thursday so I'll make sure to set this up with them and see if we can figure out how to reproduce this. Thanks.

    Hi Rene,

We just released POD Farm 1.10. Can you download it and try it and see if it improves the spikes? Thanks.

    Rene,

I can reproduce this here on our Intel machine here in support but our QA department cannot repro on any of their machines including AMD.

I've logged a bug to bump it up the latter so let's continue to use the support ticket we have open to trou9bleshoot this. Thanks.

Some problems take more time to solve than others and I can see that you have recently responded to you open ticket.  Make sure to continue your communication through the support ticket regarding your issue.

        Dear Line6,

again since my latest addition to my supportticket of the 23rd of november I did not get a reply from you so I am posting here.

I hope you don't mind but 10 days would seem long enough to get a reply.

Firstly you asked me for a video or screenshots of the CPU-spikes, I replied that I have already sent a screenshot of the spikes (this was in my original post on this subject in the old Line6 forumhttp://line6.com/supportarchive/thread/53678). I asked you what more you would need but did not get a reply so far. I would be happy to send you the screenshot again or any other info you need, but please tell me so.

Secondly you state that you did not get any reports from other endusers experiencing the CPU-spikes but in a reply to my original post you say

"other people have reported similar issues involving other DAWs". This, in my view,  is a contradiction. How can I understand this?

I understand that if you are not able to reproduce my CPU-spikes that you cannot find a solution but since the start of my supportticket I had the impression that you are working on it (L6Miller was able to reproduce at a certain point) and now the investigation seems to come to a halt.

So in short: does the matter still have a certain priority?

        Rene

        hey rene

I realise this is mostly aimed at line6, but I've recently built a new daw pc and had some DPC latency spikes that I managed to get rid of.  perhaps we (the forum users) could tyr to help you in your quest?  but we're lacking some info, like your system specs and OS version.  also what you've already done to try and fix this.  my gut feeling is that if you're running vista, I'd seriously think about getting hold of a cheap HDD and rebuilding with XP just to see if it's better, as I have seen so many issues with vista and far less (but still more than XP) with windows 7.

yeah it does sound like you're right on what's causing the issue.

it's a shame installing xp isn't an option, as remember that drivers can support different OS's in a different way.  although I'm not blaming it for your issues, vista is a terrible OS... .it really is for audio work.  and although it may not fix your issue, it might be worth investing in a windows 7 upgrade (it's about the first windows OS that actually works well when you upgrade it, and fixes some performance issues.

i actually have access to a lot of computers (part of my job is scripting software installs for a standard set of applications for teams of people at work.  so I have 6 high spec'd workstations (we do a lot of CAD) next to my desk.... but alas, they're all intel CPU's the same series as what I use at home.

    RE: Support Ticket: no respons

    Hello,

I was able to produce small intermittent spikes every few seconds or so on the Vista machine we have here in our support offices however, nothing nearly to the extent of what you claim is happening on your computer. Our QA department cannot reproduce on any of their machines.

I have heard of other end users claiming of having certain CPU spikes however, each time I tried to follow up I never got a response.

I'm not sure where to take this at this point. If we can't reproduce there isn't much we can do. I have logged this issue in detail in our bug database so it is in their.

Have you tried turning off any processes that may be running in the background? Indexing? Anything?

If you have then I'm afraid that I can't help you. If you could try to reproduce on another computer then that would be helpful. That's pretty much the last thing we can try.

    RE: Support Ticket: CPU-spikes

    Rene,

You have a lot of other audio devices connected to your computer. Out of curiosity, and for the sake of finding the root cause here, have you tried uninstalling all other USB audio device drivers you have installed on your PC? I know it's extremely arduous but it may be worth it if it helps us find the culprit of your spikes.
