guitarport online X3L problem

Hi all,
I have an X3L and just tried guitarport online (I have subscribed for some time). Although I can log on and download lessons when I try to play any of them I dont get any sound. I dont just mean that the track doesent play (coz it looks like it is playing) but I mean as soon as I click on play all sound output from the X3L stops untill I stop the track playing. So mu guitar stops, I stop the track playing and it all comes back.
It used to work.
Any ideas
BTW the only change I have made recently is to upgrade monkey to 1.33
TIA
OK - I have been fiddling a bit more and as a result I have remembered the other change - and on reflection the most significant - I started using spdif out for the sound. I find that the audio from GP online is coming through the headphone socket (and I assume also the 1/4 in out) while the guitar is feeding through the spdif, I still find that as soon as I start playing the sound from GP online the guitar through spdif cuts out.
This isn't the case for any other stuff I have used to date (riffworks uses the spdif out for both the guitar and the sounds). And of course it is fine unless I want to play along with GP online, which is kinda the point.
I am sure that I just need to set something up differently, but I dont know what. Can anybody help.
do you have the output to match/studio direct?
i seem to recall that you needed to do that...
might be wrong... but something to try
Thanks for the suggestion.
To be honest I am not great at setting up inputs and outputs (I really must learn). But I have just been through pretty much every combination I can (on both 1/4 outputs and spdif - setting both or either up to match studio direct and all of the other settings as well) but I still cant sort it out..... I think the thing that is confusing me is that I can get both sounds through other software. I know that GP online handles sound differently - perhaps that's it...
To be honest if I have to go back to 1/4 out for everything then fair enough - I just appear to loose a bit of volume if I do it that way.
Hello,
You need to set up the X3L as the soundcard on your computer to hear the guitar and audio from GPO. See the following links for setting up the soundcard on the XP system:

Hi Andy,
thanks for your reply. I am actualy away for a couple of days so I cant check. But I am pretty sure that I have set up the X3L to be the sound card. I usualy do and I am pretty sure that this was something I tried.
Also - how come that this question has now been flagged as answered? I appriciate that you feel that this is the correct solution, but surely until I have had a chance to check it and confirm that this has solved the problem the question hasnt been answered. Surely the only person that should be able to flag a question as answered is the person that asked it.
Please dont think I am being a "pain" by saying this, but I am a bit annoyed that somebody else has effectivly decided that I no longer have a problem, that is for me to decide. Dont get me wrong I am extremly grateful for your help and suggestion, but until I confirm that it has resolved my problem, my question hasnt been answered.
As I said I am away for a couple of days and will check your suggestion to see if it has worked when I get back.
Hi Andy,
much as I would like to have to eat my words, I am now at home and able to try your solution. But as I said I had set my computers sound card to default to the X3L, all of my other computer sounds are coming via the x3l. But the same thing is happening in GPOL.
I have the sound from my X3L going via the spdif socket on the board to my amp (spdif socket)
I start Gearbox.
My guitar sounds are coming out loud and clear through the amp.
I select a track (either download one or select one previously D/L and stored on my hard drive).
Sound still comming out through my amp.
Click play on the GPOL transport controls.
No sound through the Amp (including the guitar is now not coming through the amp)
Click stop and the guitar works again.
If I listen through the headphones - I can hear all of the sounds (I would assume - but cant be sure - that this would be true for the other outs as well)
As I said in my previous message if I have to listen through the headphones or one of the other outputs so be it. But I want to know what I am doing wrong. Or is GPOL playback facility not compatible with using SPDIF on the X3L.
BTW my previous comments about this thread having been marked as answered not only still stand, but the fact that this clearly hasn't been answered proves my point.
That is not to say I am not grateful for your help and support, I am extremely grateful, but please don't mark my questions as answered unless I confirm that they have been.
Cheers
John
I'm having the exact same problem as described in the last post. No sound when using the player, but works fine when the player is stopped. 1/4 inputs work fine all the time, but its the SPDIF I'm concerned with.
Hi Josh,
the culmination of this chain of enquiry was that Guitarport Online is NOT compatible with SPDIF. Apparently something to do with copyright issues (no I cant see why either).
At least I know to stop trying
