I don't think you need to register software - just hardware. Workbench is tied to a Variax guitar. Anyone can download the Workbench software - but it's useless on its own. It may even run independently, but unless there's a Variax attached the software is just pretty pictures. As long as the Variax is connected to your computer via the Workbench hardware (which I don't think needs registration), or a Variax-compatible Line 6 device such as the X3 Live (which does need registration), the Workbench will be able to communicate with the Variax. It's the hardware that controls the utility of the software.
