heavy noise/low output & phones toneport ux-2

when i start up, vu-meters go beserk but no sound from the headphones until i crank the knob to max! is there something i can do before i throw everything through the window...
Has the UX2 worked for you in the past, or has it always acted this way?
Are you using it on the same computer that you had in the past with the same setup and operating system?
I recommend uninstalling all Line 6 software then re-installing the latest software from our website.
Remove any other USB devices from the computer (except for a mouse, keyboard, and the UX2) while troubleshooting this issue. Completely remove ANY USB hubs, even if not in use, and test the UX2 on all of the computer's USB ports.
IF the problem persists no matter what you do, test on a different computer in this same manner to isolate the problem.
