No audio after installation (UX2)

The last recording device I owned was a 4-track cassette recorder so I'm pretty excited about upgrading to the digital age with my brand-spanking-new UX2.
Unfortunately, after following all the directions available (or at least the ones I could find) audio is no longer reaching the speakers.
Any help would be appreciated; below are all the pertinent details I could think of...
Dell Inspiron 9300
Intel Pentium M @ 1.6 GHz
RAM 1.0 GB
Windows XP (sp2) Home
Sigma Tel C-Major Audio (however, all audio settings have now been rerouted to the UX2 per the manual)
Installed POD Farm
Connected UX2 unit when prompted to do so
Registered the unit online
Installed and utilized Line Monkey to ensure the latest drivers are installed
Plugged in electric guitar
VU meters indicate a good signal input, POD Farm interface shows a signal is being received
No sound from the speakers (turned on with max volume)
Windows Media Player now will no longer put sound to the speakers, either (although it appears to be functioning normally)
Restarted the computer (more than once) but the problem persists.
I'm certain that I'm just overlooking something. I *am* computer literate, but from a user standpoint. This is also my first foray into dealing with digital audio recording.
I have not yet installed Live Lite 7, RiffWorks, or Reason Adapted (the discs that came with the unit).
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!
remember that when you use a toneport, it is seen by your PC as THE sound card. windows can only use one sound card at a time. so that means all your audio input and output from your PC MUST go through the same sound card..
so your guitar/mic needs to be plugged into your toneport, and your speakers or headphones also need to be conencted to your toneport.
some people get a small mixer like a behringer 502 so they can connect the PC sound card and the toneport outputs to different mixer channels, and the seakers to the mixer output so you don't need to keep unplugging your speakers and connecting them to different devices all the time.
hope this helps.

+1. Please connect headphones or your computer speakers directly to the TonePort either through the headphones jack or the analog outputs on the back of the device.
