Hi,
In order to resolve your issue I am going to need you to answer a few more questions so I can learn a little more about your setup.
What kind of digital audio software are you currently running?
What operating system is you computer using?
Have you tried switching out cables?
Are you providing Phantom Power to the mic?
How are you routing the signal from the mic to the interface?
Just let me know and I'll do my best to help you.
Thanks,
David
I'm having the same problem with my UX8! I have to turn the mic gain knob all the way up to get ANY signal and then it's very noisy. This is on ALL channels. No stupid mistakes here.........phantom is on! (Situation is the same whether with dynamic OR condenser mics). Good strong vocals (with trim knob ALL THE WAY UP) barely registers a blip on my recording software.....I can barely see the waveform.
I'm using Windows XP with Sonar.
What kind of digital audio software are you currently running? Ableton Live 8.0.3
What operating system is you computer using? Windows 7 Ultimate
Have you tried switching out cables? I did
Are you providing Phantom Power to the mic? Yes
How are you routing the signal from the mic to the interface? directly
Laptop:
Acer 4810T
3G DRR3 Memory
haven't have definite answer yet.
What's the sound like on the headphone outs on the UX8?
If you got crap there its not looking good.
Sounds fine with the monitor..
I have a condenser mic so I need to use phantom power..
THe thing is, I have to crank up the mic volume (up to 10) to get a good signal..
Is there something wrong with my UX8?

Sound like there might be.
I use both dynamic and condensers on my UX8.
Never set the signal level to 10 with the AT4041's.
The SM7b on the other hand does require a lot of gain.
My Mackie 1202 VLZ Pro's mic pres have more gain, but the UX8 pres work OK.
Thanks dude,
I go check this one out..
I am having the same propblem with my interface, did you ever find a solution to the problem
Same issue here on Mac OSX 10.7.5. The VU meters on the unit will show that the Mic is maxing out the preamp and will even clip, but the output that is passed over USB to garageband and other programs is a very low signal indeed. It's not unusable, but I'm certainly concerned about having to max the preamp to such an exent for fear of distortion.
I read on these forums somewhere that someone managed to fix the problem (at least on OSX) by installing it on an XP machine and then simply switching back to OSX. I'll give it a try at some point but I'm not holding out much hope.
Stay in the mix and in the know.
