Warning - RANT!!

Steve, I agree wholeheartedly about reading the manuals. RTFM, as the saying goes. I don't think the 'search' comment is quite fair however. As I have often found, if you don't use the exact terminology, a search like this will not give any useful results. Searching (on Google for instance) might lead to this forum. You then expect a forum search to turn up an answer? Well, it might for you or me but frankly, for a nooby, it will just lead to more frustration. Yes, it's a pain answering the same old questions over and over again but to the poor, frustrated soul who needs an answer, it is a lifeline and I, personally, don't mind. On the other hand, Line6 could do a LOT more to make the FAQs more accessible and stop wasting everyone's time!
.
I agree as well Steve and It's a pity they will not put a sticky on Joe's site because that would help Rant over ![]()
One of the main problems, which could be fixed relatively easily (are you listening Line6 guys?) is to make the manuals more accessible. I got the Spider Jam Pilots Guide with my amp. Fair enough. I don't know if the Advanced Guide is included with new amps (can anyone confirm?).
Anyway, it would seem that people are not finding these documents which, considering the convoluted path to them, is not surprising. Why can the Pilots Guide and Advanced Guide links not be included in the Documents tab at the top of the forum??? And, yes, it would be nice to have a link to my site although I can understand why they would not want to do that as I could change my mind at any time and start making negative comments. Maybe I have already ![]()
And, many thanks to ianpdq for the relentless plugging for joesjamblog.com.
The 'sticky' should be for the two manuals, if anything but documents about FVB pedal compatibility and calibration should be up there too along with more detailled instructions about dealing with SD card issues. And the tab title itself "Documents" could be better expressed. I would suggest "Important!", "Vital Documents" or "Read me first!"
No problem there Joe if people want to know about the Jam it's a great site to point them to and it should help with the repeated post as well ![]()
Ok, to the 2 or 3 guys who ALWAYS answer all of our dumb questions.........Thank you . Clearly you are dedicated to the forum. Joe, your website is awesome. Honestly, I thought you were a line 6 employee. Why else would you spend so much time worrying about our silly un-informed questions? Extra points to Joe.
Ya, the manuals leave much to be desired, but also, forums are supposed to be a quick contact source to people that have maybe experience your same issue. I have only ever posted one question about 6 weeks ago or so, and it was answered quick and thouroughly. I was on my way. But, I subrcribed to be emailed every time a new comment on anything was posted, and I love it. So...it's not only the guy asking the question, it's guys like me sitting quitley in the background, monitering the discussions and learning new stuff hear and there. Some times us humans need to hear something 3 times before it sinks in. Wayyyyy better than reading the manuals.
Once again, please keep it up, humour our lack of manual reading, and realize you are doing a great service on your own time.
Back to the shadows I go, Cheers.
I agree 100% Riconaught. Im a bit of a lurker as well but I have probably learnt more from other peoples questions than I have from the pilots guide. Joes site is simply awesome and he is to be highly praised for his time and effort, but its a pity that such a superb website couldnt be provided by Line 6. I sometimes wonder if Line 6 appreciate the number of dedicated customers they have. Line 6 gets some undeserved stick on other amp sites and I argue their case against all comers. OK a Spider Jam will never sound like a Mesa Boogie or a massive Marshall stack but on a value for money basis a Spider Jam takes some beating
I still prefer the old forum mind you![]()
lots of good points guys - now I feel guilty for ranting.
really my only point is that it seems like we answer the same thing over and over and over and most of the questions we answer are clearly right there in the manuals.
Maybe its my OCD or ADHD but when I invest in any type of technical gear I always pour over the manuals before I even use the gear.
And even though the SEARCH function is not the best it does work. I use it often to double check answers I am giving. You may save yoursefl a lot of time by giving it a try before posting your question.
For those of you who are new to the forum - please don't let my rant deter you from asking your questions.
Just RTFM first...ok?
Steve
