Monkey does not see flash version onPod XT live.

I'm trying to refresh the flash memory on my pod xt live, Pod says I have ver 3.01, but I've been having freezing problems and it was recommended to factory reset and update flash. When monkey connects, it shows all drivers up to date but shows a "?" for flash version.
I want to update the flash to see if the problems go away, but I can't as Monkey does not see it.
Any suggestions?
Is there a hardware reset that can be done on the Pod itself?
Thanks but this does not work.
When the screen from Monkey is up, the flash does not show a yellow yeild sign, it only shows a small circle with a question mark in it. The "Installed" version shows as "--" and the latest version available is 3.01. Therefore I can't highlite it in blue and select the update button, it won't let me.
On the pod itself it shows the latest version is installed but I want to flash it to make sure it is ok. Might help with my freezing problems.
Did you try the "Safe Mode" option described?
I guess I should have read a bit further down! It worked, thanks for your help.
Different user -- I did try this in safe mode, and it still does not see my flash memory version. Any tips?
