Problems installing POD HD400 device driver

Can't seem to get my HD400 recognized by the PC.  The driver software appears to install OK, but when I connect the device is type "Unknown" and so it is not finding the driver software.  When I point to the directory where the drivers were installed, it does not find driver software for the device.

Running Vista Home Premium SP2 w/ 4GB RAM.  According to Dell's documentation, all USB ports on my PC (Dell Studio 540) are USB 2.0.

In Device Manager, the HD400 shows up under "Other Devices".    I have tried to install via the following steps:

- Select device in Device Manager -> right click -> Properties

- On the Driver tab, "Update Driver" button

- "Browse my computer..." -> "Let me pick..." -> Show All Devices -> Have Disk - > [select file I6PODHD4.inf]

At this point, the "Installing driver software..." screen appears for a while, but then times out.  The HD400 then shows up in Device Manager, but is not recognized by Line 6 Monkey or HD400 Edit, which tells me something didn't work so I have to delete the drivers for the device again.

Any ideas?

Have you tried a different USB port? Someone mentioned in a thread here the other day that sometimes the front USB ports go through an internal Hub which can cause problems. It's worth a shot at least.

Re: Problems installing POD HD400 device driver

    Hi

There seems to be some kind of communication issue between your POD and the computer.  It may be a hardware conflict, a faulty cable, a faulty USB port on the computer etc... or it may be a software issue on your computer in that another application or driver for another piece of equipment may be blocking your attempts to install the HD500 - or even your anti-malware software might be causing the problem.  I can't really guess at what software or drivers might be blocking your attempts to install the Hd400 drivers as they will be unique to your system in the way that it is configured.

Disconnect all other USB devices like printer, Web cam etc...

Download and install the driver for the HD400 directly from the Downloads section above for Windows Vista which should update the settings.  Connect the HD400 using a NEW or different USB cable (you may have a faulty one - rare but possible).

Download and install/re-install Line 6 Monkey 1.34 and hopefully it should detect your HD400.

Just to double check that the issue isn't with your HD400 itself, do you have access to another computer you could use to try the HD400 installation on?  If so that might be a way forward if we can discount the HD400 as being the problem and know for certain that it is a problem related to your computer.

    Nick

I have to admit defeat on this one.  It may be that your unit has a hardware fault and that you need to get the unit repaired or ideally replaced by your supplier.  it certainly doesn't seem to be behaving itself as it should.  Have a chat with your supplier and see what they suggest.  It would be useful perhaps if they atre local to you and have another HD400 in stock if you could take your laptop to the store and try it with a different HD400 which should confirm one way or another whether or not the problem is with your HD400 or something else.

Sorry that's the best I can suggest in terms of you troubleshooting the issue yourself

      Regards

      Nick
