Trouble activating Farm 2 on Pod X3

Hello,
I can't activate my Pod Farm 2 licence key on my Pod X3. Pod Farm 2 is already checked as activated on the X3, but when I launch Pod Farm 2, it won't recognize the X3, so I'm pretty sure no licence key is already on it. My licence is marked as uninstalled, and when I try to activate it Monkey says :
"Activation not completed.
The optional add-ons you are attempting to activate should already be activated in your hardware. If you don't have them, or you need additional assistance, please use the Support button."
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
Are you trying to run it as a standalone?
POD Farm (1 or 2) only works with the X3 as a plug-in within a compatible DAW.
The X3 then becomes the security dongle.
For a standalone editor you will need to use Gearbox.
Well, this X3 used to belong to a friend who sold it to me. So, as I get it, there must be a « non-standalone » version of Farm 2 on it, but it still belongs to him, even though the X3 is now registered as mine. Now how can I change this? The X3 is now mine, but not the Pod Farm 2 on it!
(and it also means that I bought a standalone version of Farm2 for nothing, but it's too late for that)
couple of points... you can't buy the standalone pod farm 2 anywhere... its only available included for the pod studio and toneport stuff....
anywhere else you buy pod farm any version... it is the plugin not the standalone.
also you can't really use the pod farm that your friend bought unless you use your friends account...
the hardware can change hands but the licenses stay with the user account....
if he has no other line6 gear he could easily change username/email/password and other info and simply give you the account... and the pod farm....
otherwise you will need to buy your own....
if you bought pod farm youself just activate it using monkey...
to check your purchase go here: http://line6.com/account/licenses/
it should be listed as available.
The original problem remains : I can't activate my Pod Farm 2 (the one I actually bought myself) on this X3. It appears on the licence page as uninstalled (it used to be installed on my previous pod, a pod xt, but I extracted the licence from it in order to put it in the X3).
have you gone to monkey and tried to activate it on the optional addons tab?
you should have the license key on that link, and also try refresh you should be able to get that license on the x3.
if you can get the green check mark on it in monkey then you should be able to launch it as a plugin.
Yes, and that's the problem! I've been trying for days to activate it on Monkey, and I always get the message you can see in my first post. Pod Farm 2 already has the green check mark on Monkey, but when I launch it, it won't recognize my X3.
don't launch it from the icon... it will never work that way...
if you have the green checkmark, then open your recording software, and add pod farm as a plugin....
this is the only way it will EVER work with the x3.
if you are just trying to edit your tones... you don't need pod farm at all....
get gearbox.
pod farm is only for working with your recordings after the fact...
Yeah, but it seems to me that Pod Farm 2 allows to do more than Gearbox does. Doesn't it? My goal is to be able to create tones in which I can multiply effects, do whatever I want. It's a shame I can't be able to use Pod Farm 2, it's so much more practical.
you are right pod farm 2 does let you do all that stuff...
that's why i stick with pod farm 1....
confused?
let me explain....
even though you can do that in pod farm 2... you cant use those tones on your x3....
pod farm 1 works just like the x3 and all the tones created using pod farm 1 can be loaded to the x3... by using gearbox.
tones created on pod farm 2 can only be used by pod farm 2... for your recordings....
as far as pod farm 1 and gearbox... they have the identical features... so you would gain nothing by using pod farm instead of gearbox... if it was even an option... which it isn't...
but this is also why pod farm 2 costs money and pod farm 1 doesn't....
pod farm 1 allows you to everything that you already paid to do on the x3....
pod farm 2 adds extra stuff... the routing and some midi etc... but those features aren't included in the x3... so you pay for them through the pod farm 2 upgrade.
it sounds like you can do what you want with pod farm 2... to your recordings... but the x3 cannot replicate those things....

The X3 hardware is fixed. And it is the hardware that is processing the tones. All Gearbox does is act as a graphical editor.
Unless you are using the plug-in, then it is your computer processing the tones, which is why you can then use the features of PF.
So even if you create tones in PF2 with multiple effects (more than one of the same category) , you will not be able to load them into the X3.
Devices like the UX and GX series relies on your computer to process audio, which is why you can use PF as a standalone.
The advantage the X3 has it can be used without a computer, the UX and GX series cannot.
Well, this is kinda upsetting, because I want to be able to have my tones without the computer, but I also want to be able to mix multiple effects. But I guess I can't have both.
I mean until now I was doing fine with my XT, but since I'm interested in creating all types of sounds with my guitar, it wouldn't be enough, thus the X3. I could buy a GX but I don't like not being able to use it without the computer, and it's obviously not made to be linked to a cab.
Let's just hope some day Line6 will come up with a gear that'll fit perfectly for people like me who want both universes at the same time. Until then creating tones the old way with the X3 will have to do, and it's already great for me, because it brings a lot more stuff than the XT did. Plus there is the dual tone thing that makes more things possible.
I'm just a little upset I bought PF2 for nothing. ![]()
Thank you for your answers, it's been very helpful.
the new hd500 allows multiple effects
just FYI....
and with a little creative cabling you can use the dual tones in the x3 to use multiple effects also....
basically... take the out of tone 1 and put it into the aux input of tone2
then the appropriately panned output to your amp...
select the right inputs... do the right panning etc.....
if you want to expirement....
just not as simple as programming a patch though.
fyi...
if you purchased pf2 withinh 30 days you can get a full refund.
Stay in the mix and in the know.
