Can anyone help me make vocoder effect work?

I have an HD500.  I attached a microphone to XLR inpuy and my guitar to the guitar input.  I changed the settings in setup so input 2 is microphone.  I set up a patch and tried the effect before and after the amp and I can't get any effect sound.  I can hear my voice from the mic and my guitar when the effect is switched off.  When I turn it on there is no sound from either input.  I have mic, input and decay set at 50%,  mix at 100%.  I feel like I must be missing something simple but the instruction manual has little info other than inserting a mic with xlr and setting it as input 2.  Has anyone made it work or have a patch setting I can try that they know works?

Thanks,

Joe

P.S. VocoderTest1 has effect after amp, VocoderTest2 has effect before amp

    Hello,

This is actually easier then you think.

Start with a blank tone. Single tone will work fine. Create a Vocoder effect and then put an amplifier (any amp) after the Vocoder.

Connect your mic and guitar to the POD (if you haven't already). Turn the mic gain all of the way up on the back of the POD.

Set the mix of the Vocoder to a fairly high percentage.

Now play the guitar and talk into the mic. That's pretty much it.
