I'm hoping this is the right group for this. Seems metally. Anyway, I'm all rigged to be able to make music in my apartment with headphones. the problem is I don't really know what the hell I am doing, but I have heard examples of other artists using the same gear and I hope to one day get a decent sound and be able to record into Fruity Loops to my programmed drum tracks. Right now I am just trying to find a good tone for my 7 string. I've experimented with the numerous amps on the Metal Shop patch for Pod Farm and seem to have zeroed in on the Soldano type. I started with everything neutral and made slight tweaks here and there to get maximum fuzz without muddying up. Then I tried a few effects in an attempt to enhance what I had. The Flanger seems to make a difference, but i can't figure out how to cut it anymore. I have too much reverb and would like to figure out how to cut that down as well so the effects take a back seat to the main tone. I would accept any and all advice from anyone who knows how to get the tone just right so it stops on a dime when palm muted but sounds bright and room filling when open. Here is a link to what I have so far. G# standard. This isn't a song, just a tone check. Thanks for anyone who pays this post any attention.
One way to do it would be to record two separate tracks one with no fx and slightly less gain for definition and then the other track with fx .. one panned right like %80 the other left and then you can eq them ..put them in a stereo track or duplicate them make ones volume louder or softer in the mix .. etc.. until it sounds right to you.
Typically more gain means more mudd ... better two tracks with less gain for thick tight sound then one with too much fuzz or gain...
Thanks. Sounds like a great way to spend a Sunday. I will try that.
You, are an effing genius. thanks for the tip. this is what I made because of that. Well, and Maximus. the mix sucks, but at least you can hear the damn geetar!
