putting external pedal after HD500 as opposed to using the loop

If I wanted to use one of my external stomp boxes (TC Electronics Nova Delay) with the HD500.....is there any difference whether I put in in the HD's FX Loop and the end of the chain or simply place it between the HD500's output and the amp?
Thanks,
Derek
you can put the loop in other places within the effects chain... would be the obvious answer...
i'm sure you already thought of that though.
If you use the Master Volume on the HD to control your volume then that would be the biggest difference, putting it before the HD or in the FX loop of the HD lets you place it before the Master Volume so it always gets a constant level.

I was thinking from a tone perspective, would there be any reason not to use an external stomp either before or after the HD500 as opposed to within the loop itself? That is a good point about the volume control so what about another example at the other end. What if I put an OD/Dist before the HD500 instead of within the loop (placed in the first FX block)...any tonal issues with that?
eg.
[OD/Dist] ---> [HD500] ---> [FX1] ---> [FX2] ---> [FX3] ---> [FX4]
FX loop
[HD500] ---> [OD/Dist] ---> [FX1] ---> [FX2] ---> [FX3] ---> [FX4]
Thanks,
Derek
There should not be a difference besides the ones already pointed out between the 2 scenarios you are posing!
I may be repeating but if you place it before the unit, it does not allow you to place your wah or any other effects before the distortion.
Good stuff...thanks all ![]()
