finally, after 10 months wating... the luthier completed his work.
it was custom builded by diego serra, here's his website. http://diegoserracustom.blogspot.com/
i wanted the guitar to be based on a suhr standard (the one guthrie govan uses). it has H-S-H pickups, plus the two humbuckers can be splited.
the pickups are seymour duncan 59 on the bridger and neck, and a suhr fl on the middle position, plus the two humbuckers can be splited.
we used the variax 700 bridge. the tone knob and pickup selector are shared between both sistems, and there is a volume knob for the variax and one for the pickups.
the tuning machines are sperzels, with the locking system.
the result is the most amazing guitar i've ever played
here's the donor:
and here's the result.
and here's a vid i made showing a few sounds and styles.
PS: if someone is interested in the remains of the 700(body, neck and tuning machines) let me know!
i noticed the mini toggles. am i assuming correctly that those are on and off for each pickup. i plan on doing that on my transplant . you get more pickup positions that way. sweet looking job
only change id make is change the white pickup cover to black or none to match the other two. great job. i like that tune your playing you should post that over in the video audio recording section.

VERY nice guitar. Man, you must be so happy to have the Definitive Axe ![]()
Wish you the best, and nice playing, BTW!
Diego did a nice job on that transplant, but you do an even better job of playing it! I like the Steve Howe-type picking in Wayne's Groove, using both the pick and fingers at once. Very nice!
Hi what an amazing guitar!!!! looks and sounds a dream, I live in the UK and would be interested in your variax neck if you've still got it? My email is dpickwell@ntlworld.com if you want to get in touch.
Saw this recently over at the Petrucci forum. What a great guitar, in fact I'd go as far as to say that it's the ultimate guitar!

Very nice! I noticed the luthier is in entre rios? I am staying in Buenos Aires for 2 months and may have to go see a client in entre rios. Has he done other variax xplants?
Beautiful guitar - and likewise the playing!
Out of curiosity - how are you switching between the piezo's and the mag p'ups in the video? With an A/B pedal?
I'm going to put humbuckers in my v700 (same blue one you started with - I really like the way it feels, but it needs a bit more tone at times), and I am curious about the toggles.
I understood that you added a single volume knob for the p'ups, but you also have 3 mini toggles there... how are those wired (eg: are they switching between piezo's and p'ups?)
I have my humbuckers en route now and have a luthier all lined up for the work (www.brokenbridgesguitars.com) and am formulating how to manage the controls. My thoughts have been adding a toggle to switch between the piezo's and p'ups (so I can run it all through the TRS cable) and either 1 additional volume for the p'ups, or possibly 2 - 1 for each pickup. The buckers I have coming are 4-wire, so I'm also looking at coil split options.
If you're still checking out the forums, I'd really like to know how your mini-toggles are working.
Thanks, for your potential response, as well as for the inspiring video!
