GearBox won't detect GuitarPort regardless of green light...

Hello folks,

I am using a Macbook pro (Mac OS X 10.7, Lion) and GuitarPort with GearBox version 3.72.

When I open Line 6 Monkey with my GuitarPort plugged in, I get a 'No Devices Detected' message, but the green light on the GuitarPort itself is on. When I open Gearbox with GuitarPort plugged in I get the same thing, "No compatible Line 6 devices have been detected" and there's a blinking USB icon on the lower right-hand corner.. This entire time the green light on GuitarPort remains lit. Regardless of the green light, my computer also doesn't show GuitarPort under "devices" when it's plugged in.

Line 6 Monkey cannot connect to the internet ("Error Code 800038C6 Unknown server error occurred") and informs me to disable firewall etc but I have nothing of the sort running, all the while my internet works fine...

Help?

Thanks...

I have this same problem. Did you ever find the solution?
I am hypothesizing that Windows has it turned on and is using it in some way shape or form and therefore Gearbox doesn't see it as it thinks its "in use".

I don't understand though I had this working a few months back.

    Windows 7 Pro x64

    i7 Quad Core E2340, 8gb RAM.
    Auzentech x-studio
    Asus P6X58D-E

    Hey Atmospherium,

I would suggest that you manually uninstall your Line 6 drivers using the Line 6 Driver uninstaller located at:

      Applications/Line6/Drivers - DriverUninstaller

Make sure to disconnect your GuitarPort from the computer before uninstalling drivers.

After they have been removed, repair disc permissions:

Open the disc utility program located within your utilities folder, select your primary hard drive, and repair disc permissions. Restart the computer.

Upon restart, leave the GuitarPort disconnected.

Download and install the latest drivers:

      MAC Drivers : 7.1.0

      http://line6.com/software/readeula.html?rid=4171

After the installation finishes, connect your GuitarPort directly to a USB port and not a USB hub, extension, or keyboard of any kind, preferably connect it to a USB port on the rear of computer.

Try again to see if Monkey or GearBox can recognize your GuitarPort.

This is weird I found that Windows 7 see's the Guitarport as a sound card, and thats good and all, I could even play through that "raw" so its seeing it, however Gearbox doesn't seem to want to see it or even acknowledge that it is even there. I keep getting the No compatible Line 6 USB devices have been detected. ERROR.
      Same for the Monkey application.

Is there ANY fix for this?
I wish that there was a way to manually point the software to the hardware.
I've wasted a day on this so far...

ok, im about at the end of my rope here considering alternative things to buy. Is GearBox / GuitarPort even compatible with Windows 7 x64? If anyone has had any success withit working I would love to know the correct settings.
I watched afew of the tutorials for Visa installations. I followed the installation to a tee but still now luck. The guitar Port is seen and works in windows but the Gearbox and Monkey software is not seeing it. So I cannot use any effects.

        This is really frustrating.
        Any help would be appreciated.

Is there any directions as the one above for Win7?

I am having this same exact problems with my macbook pro runnin the os lion.  After spending an hour or so on your site looking for a solution I keep coming up empty handed.  I have installed/unistalled all the software updates, drivers, monkey's etc. that your site has recomended.  When the monkey program opens it will not let me select my gearbox as an option....only PODxt.

Is there an actual solution to this problem that we seem to be having?   Does line6 show any signs of helping besides recomending the same procedure?    Is there any reason why I shouldn't simply give up and look to another companies products?

Tommorrow I am going to try using a PCI USB card and see what happens, I'm starting to think maybe with newer USB controllers and how x64 OS in both mac and pc address them might be an issue.
If anyone running a guitarport on i7 x58 chipset boards and it works let me know how you did it.

Also tested it on my Acer netbook, installed and ran perfectly thats with win7 x86 sp1. go figure...
I'll report my test if anything positive comes up, although it doesn't solve the issue with laptop computers.

And yeah perrinot, i've been browsing for new equipment all day between the failures and frustration.
So far the IK multimedia stealth plug with Amplitude 3 live Package seems like the closest thing, I'll have to read if anyone has had the same problems with it as some of the line 6 stuff.

Ok that didn't work. I tried swapping in a 2 port USB 2.0 PCI card and did the whole kit and kaboodle again. Same error, no prize.

Is there ANY possibility of this ever working on newer systems? I understand its older hardware and its likley not a prioriety. Just to be clear, it seems the DRIVER is fine, its the software.

Is there any suggestion of another Line 6 unit that guarentees that it will work?

I am open for suggestions but I need to know 100% it will work.

I need something really basic but will use the Gearbox or something else. Just an interface.
          Might consider the POD Studio.

          Thanks

ok, by fluke I tried the demo of Amplitude 3.
It saw the Guitar Port no problem, yeah really... I know.
This tells me (perhaps) the problem is the software. You guys might check the ASIO drivers in the software end of things. I'm no software programmer but this is what my trail has led me to. I will try one more thing that is re-installing my whole mofo OS this time installing the Guitar Port BEFORE anything else.
Then attempt to try and break it as I add on the rest of the hardware and drivers.

    Hi,

This problem seems to be related to another application interfering with Gearbox on your system.

What type of anti virus software do you have installed?

      Have you tried uninstalling/reinstalling Gearbox?

Is there any other software that monitors you internet connection in any way?

Are you receiving any other errors in any other applications on your system that could be related?

Is it possible that your internet router settings are not configured correctly?

If using a router, try connecting directly to your cable modem and see if Monkey can connect to the internet.

Also, check out our USB Troubleshooting Guide:

i'm using Avast, is there any known issue with Avast?
I've uninstalled/reinstalled gearbox about 10 times now, even to the extreme.
Avast monitors the internet connection, does Gearbox require internet to work? I am not concerned about the online features, on start it won't even see the guitarport and says its not connected.

This router has worked in the past just fine, if I need to open a port which one shoudl it be? Also is it TCp or UDP?

Looking at the troubleshooting guide where it asks about the Line 6 audio-MIDI Devices, it opens but says no devices are connected so thats usless for me.
Also tried an external hub, no go either.

I am using a macbook pro so there is no need for me to use anykind of anti-virus software.  Everything on my laptop/ipad/desktop/router all work fine and gearbox is the only program i've used that has given me any sort of problem.  I have installed/uninstalled the gearbox software probably 10 times and keep getting the same results.

All I am looking for is a inexpensive way to plug my guitar into my macbook and be able to jam with a few basic effects, nothing crazy.  Line6 is not the only company out there that can provide this service to me, and based on the lack of help we all seem to get getting with this issue I feel that looking for a different companies products may be the way to go.    Obviously Line6 losing 1 casual customer isn't going to affect the company at all, but its frustrating when you buy a product from a company that is supposed to be industry leading and top of the line, only to discover the product doesn't work easily and their tech support is a joke......How about instead of spending so much on packaging and advertising you invest in a few techs that can answer a phone and walk somebody through the problem???   It would certianly be a better option than somebody cutting and pasting basic troubleshooting fixes onto a message board and assuming that the problem will be resolved.

Goodbye Line6....with I could say it was a pleasure doing business with you.

Keep in mind that the GearBox 3.72 installer comes bundled with a set of Line 6 drivers. It is common to overlook these options when installing GearBox, but there is a check able box for drivers, make sure to uncheck this when you install GearBox. If you don't, most likely you have installed the latest drivers first, then installed GearBox, which if left checked, will overwrite the newest drivers with the dated ones from the installer. Make sure to either un check the driver box when installing GearBox, or install the latest Line 6 drivers after the GearBox installation.
