Which powered monitors to use with HD 500?

I'm looking into getting a pair of powered monitors to use with my HD 500. My budget is $300. I was wondering what people were using at that price range?
Assuming you mean for home use, some of us use one or other of the KRK Rokit series monitors. I have two pairs of KRK Rokit monitors: KRK Rokit 5 and KRK Rokitk 6 G2. They are both pretty good at moderate to loud volumes and fine for use in a domestic environment. Sweetwater have the KRK Rokit 5 G2 at $149.50 each on offer at the moment so for $299 you may have your answer. They are well worth a look at least.

I use a pair of Samsons; I've heard others reporting good results with KRK Rokits; anything in that price range will be very adequate and you'll have several selections.
I suggest you take an mp3 player with some of your favourite tunes to your local audio retailer and try out several options. Within your budget the technical differences won't be that great - it will likely depend more on which pair sounds better to you, and it may not be the more expensive set.
In general, the bigger the main speaker you can afford the better - minimum 5", but 6" if you can afford it. 8" is probably outside your budget unless you want to go used.
I picked up a pair of Mackie MR 5's. They sounded better that the KRK 5's at the store. I'll post when I get them all hooked up.
They should do a good job too.
I find the KRKs very honest speakers for nearfield monitoring when mixing recordings and they are equally honest when creating tones with my HD500 and that being the case, when I use the HD500 with a bigger system later on it's not a big job for me to have to adjust any of the tones I've created - mostly no adjustment is necessary I've found. KRK Rokits aren't for everyone though ![]()

Hi,
I'm a big Mackie fan, having a set of HR824's that i swear by. I'm glad that you were able to find a set of nearfields that fit your budget. Let us know if you have any other questions.
Thanks,
David

I'm very impressed by these monitors! My plan is to equalize my patches before I use it (HD 500) with my Spider Valve and someday, DT 25.
