Can you give some idea of the kind of problems you have been facing? The HD series is not perfect but the majority of significant bugs have been worked out of the line now. It may be that you have either a duff unit or problems that we can seek to address.

+1... what's not working for you? Let's try to help you, as you sound like you want to use the POD HD, but you need it to work... well let's try to do that.
I have all 5 POD HD units, and have no issues with any of them, so I'm wondering if you just have a faulty unit, or if you have an old version of the firmware. Or dare I say it, you're doing something wrong... afterall sometimes it's not that easy to get used to a new multiFX box.
Lastly, please remember taht looking on this forum can sometimes help to highlight what issues some people are having, yet you don't know how many tensof thousands of happy users are out there, as happy users tend to not post on support forums... From what I know, I'd have an educated guess that the failure rate is under 1% for hardware faults with the POD HD series. Aside from a few larger bugs which got ironed out in the April 1.3 and 1.31 flash updates (free updates they were) there's only a few small bugs that I know still exist, and are either due to be fixed, or can be worked around.

I'm sorry you're having difficulty in achieveing what you want expect from your POD HD (which one do you have?)
I have had my HD500 since June 2010 and have to say that it has been hammered in terms of usage. Not one problem relating to hardware - or software for me either, but there have certainly been a number of improvements and fixes for some bugs that caused issues for some users.
I'm assuming that your unit is not actually faulty right now because I don't know what problems you're having, but yes, like any electronics product, there is always a small chance that you may have a faulty unit
I have the POD HD desktop and the POD HD Pro as well - I haven't got the HD300 and HD400 like Rowbi has but all the POD HD units I have got here have been 100% reliable.
I'm not new to PODs. I also have a POD 2.0 original spec, an XT Live which was not/is not a bad unit at all and I have used it successfully at some gigs in the past, and I have an X3 Live which whilst being great for me as a modelling solution for recording work or pretty good through a PA, I just could never get on with how it sounds through any of my guitar amps in any output mode. The POD HD, HD500 and HD Pro all sound more realistic and feel more realistic to me than any of the earlier generation PODs through any amp, PA or FRFR system. Just my experience and opinion which like yours will be largely subjective

Even if you really are done with your POD HD, it would be helpful to others perhaps to know what the nature of your problems are and how you've been attempting to use your POD HD in terms of connections, output modes, the amp you're plugging it into etc..., and maybe some of us can help you resolve whatever your issues are.
I do understand frustration with the technology surrounding some modelling gear. I have a GT-10 too and after the first few weeks of owning it and being initially wowed by the potential - exactly like my X3 Live - I went back to my Marshall head, cab and stomp boxes because they sounded better. The GT-10 and the X3 live are still there but Ionly use them really when doing bits of recording here and there. The HD500 on the other hand has been pretty much glued to whatever amp rig I've used in the last 17 months and it's been rare for me to go 'commando' so to speak without the HD500 (or one of its close relatives) being attached to my guitar rig.
Maybe the POD HD isn't for you - PODs and similar products don't suit everyone, but I suspect there is some help for you in this forum from some very knowledgeable and experienced users like Jim and others as well as from any of the L6 Experts and Line 6 staff - if you want it that is.....

Maybe you wrote off the GT-10 too early lol.Check out some of the patches made by JamesLimborg on youtube.He used some 64 band spectrum analyzer dooma-johnnie to replecate famous tones.Although to me some sound somewhat tinny some are great.
Most people fall short in the patch programming department and get frustrated and blame the gear when really the only limitation is their patience,knowledge and a creative ear.Admitted I have yet to find one great heavy distortion sound I am totally happy with on my own but I've only begun my quest hahaha.(just got it recently)
Likewise I've heard some great demos of the HD300 and HD500 as well.Also like I've mentioned about my SV HD100 mkii previously is that when I first got it I thought all of the presets sounded like kerrap but after dialing in the eq and other parameters to match my gear some sounded awesome.

I'm sure you're right
I'm certainly not short on patience or knowledge in achieving the sound I want, but I'm no different to most people in that when I want to play, I just basically want to plug in, dial in my sound in less than a minute and play. If there's an easy way to do that, then I'm going to follow the path of least resistance 
When I'm gigging a proper set I want to be able to easily access a small selection of patches that I've prepared earlier and if I need to tweak easily on the fly it has to be quick and easy.
I haven't written the GT-10 off completely. I still have it. I believe it is capable of making some great sounds and I have got some decent results out of it, but the big downer for me is that it's simply nowhere near as intuitive for simple patch creation as the POD HD500 is or even the X3 Live which like the GT-10 I don't really find great into a real amp. If the amp on its own sounds better than whatever I'm plugging into it, then I'm always going to use the amp plus stomp boxes, but if something like the POD HD + amp can equal the sound of the amp on its own, which for me it does, then I'm more than happy to use it. With the HD500, I can dial in a usable patch in 30 seconds flat in a logical manner. I know it's not massively difficult doing something similar with the GT-10 - I have had it for over three years after all, but for me the GT-10 doesn't touch the HD500 for ease of use or tone.
Affordable, realistic and effective amp modelling came of age for me with the POD HD500 and it is the first POD based solution I've stuck with consistently for over 17 months. There's one reason for that and that is for me it basically does a good job which is not a lesser job than the amp does on its own.

for some reason my usb ports aren't connecting to the podhd. i know the port i'm using and the cord are in working order because i can unplug the cable from the podhd and plug it into my pod gx and it connects fine.

It's possible that the usb connection on your Pod is simply faulty. It sounds like this is a new device - is it reasonably convenient for you to return it and get a replacement to try?

I'd also try it from a different computer, maybe a 2nd or a friend's before the two-hour drive. If it doesn't work from someone else's then yeah, it may be a faulty USB port on the POD.

btw, for future reference, use the "Mark as question" option when posting a technical query, as this ensures that a Line 6 bod will see it - currently all your threads are invisible to Line 6.

i think i need to say this. when i play through the podhd300 with my headphones on the tone i get is killer. i have not one bad thing to say as far as that area goes. i don't play live i only have a digital rig for recording so the fact that i can't get this working on the pc makes the hd useless for myself. i'm very computer savy and have had my pc optimized for computer recording. i suspect the problem is something to do with the Flash Memory. no matter what i do i can't get the update selection button to activate so i can't update the Flash Memory.

The picture you posted is cut off on the right side. Normally, in this right hand area, there is a button that says Úpdate from File....' If you see this button, you can try downloading the firmware file manually from the Downloads section of this website (see tab at top of this page). Once it is on your computer try the Update from File option in Monkey, and point it to your downloaded firmware file.

Given that your HD works at all, I doubt the problem is the flash memory. It's more likely to be a comms problem. Try plugging your USB cable into a rear port. The Line 6 USB drivers don't seem to always like front ports.

I have gotten that to happen with my HD400 when I ignore the disconnect notice installing the driver...Sometimes this will happen in the Edit install as the driver is bundled there (driver can be de-selected in that installer but is selected by default)...I would suggest you try reinstalling the driver and disconnect the USB when the driver install launches...reconnect when the installer tells you to...

The fact you have a "?" and a dash by "Installed" this means your computer is not seeing the Pod, so you cannot update. This is a problem of communication, not of the Pod flash memory.
You need to try the Pod in a different USB port directly into your computer (no USB hubs) to see if your computer recognises it - you should get the "New hardware installed" Windows message. It is also worth reinstalling the drivers, making sure you unplug the Pod when instructed and hitting "Continue anyway" when Windows tries to warn you about unsigned drivers.

i agree with you. it's some how not communicating through the usb port. i'm using a port in the back of the computer. that same port connects just fine when i use my pod gx.

While there are still some bugs, and the unit desperately needs some updates (EQ, more amps) you should really reconsider your observation, because for the money it's the best amp modeler you can find today.

I would have to agree with hansvaneven that the HD is currently the best hardware based amp modeler available for the price. But I must also agree that the HD is in desperate need of updates. I recently downloaded the demo of Scuffham S-Gear ($75 to buy), and comparing the HD to S-Gear makes it painfully obvious that the HD is falling far behind other solutions. The dynamics, feel, volume control response and tone of S-Gear are all head and shoulders above the HD. Obviously the HD has a huge advantage in being a complete, easy to use package, but when talking sound quality it is falling far behind. Hopefully Line 6 will start pushing out some updates to close the sound quality gap, but after six month of no updates its getting frustrating to wait.

So unless you've read the manual in the 10-12 hours and you know you have the right setup, or let everyone here know what setup you have so they can help you, you my friend is making hasty decision and you might never know what you would be missing on. To me leaving the HD and going back to XT, X3, Amplitube etc, is like abandoning my car for a horse and buggy. Once you get your HD properly setup, you will know what everyone is raving about, but as others have mentioned, you need to let us know what specific issue you’re having.

Hi, I had the very same issue. There is nothing wrong with your computer it IS a software bug. My laptop also stopped communicating with my pod500 after updating line6 monkey with the latest version. What is happening is monkey is not seeing your pod because there is no firmware visible to it. Hence the absense of it on the left side of the update list. I had to uninstall all line6 software from my computer and reinstall everything and flash the pod with the latest firmware again. That got me going again. Try this it should work. I did have to go through the process 2 times though. Make sure you read the pop up menus and install the drivers when asked. DOH!

I've had some USB connectivity issue the other day and it was fixed by restting HD500 Hardware setting without reflashing. All I did was press the left arrow on the 4 way button. I had to recaliberate the continuous controller after doing that, that was it.

+1 on Dean's suggestion. Another board member was having weirdness with USB but in their case with HD Edit. This move (suggested by Dean and endorsed by Line6 Hugo) fixed it.

I think you would need to install the drivers at the very least. They can be downloaded separately from Monkey if needed. There is an uninstaller too so they come off pretty easy.
If I was you, I would get the drivers, Monkey and HD Edit onto a USB stick, install them on the test machine, test the HD and then uninstall.
I would try Dean's reset first though

i have everything working on my podhd300 except for being able to create and swap tones via the edit software. the presets that i've gotten from people i had to open them in the edit sofware and then manually enter the settings into my podhd. i've set up everything in reaper and had no problems recording with it. too soon to tell if i think it's better than the x3. i stiil have to do some major tone tweaking before i can really tell what the hd can do. pain in the butt having to tweak tones manually but at least i'm making music now.

When you power up your POD does it say which version of Flash memory you have installed? Also, were you able to actually test it on another computer?

To find out what firmware version is installed on your Pod HD300, check the Setup menus.
To access the Setup options, press the PRESETS knob, and use the Nav. Disc Left/Right arrow buttons to navigate to the SETUP menu. Then keep pressing the Down nav key until you reach the screen that displays the firmware version that is installed. What is it?

Just so I'm clear here. When you plug the power supply into your HD300 the LCD screen while loading DOES NOT show a firmware version rather just a minue sign? I'm talking about the actual POD LCD screen and NOT what you see in Line 6 Monkey.

i forgot to look at that yesterday. i will check it when i get off work. last night i manually made sure every single driver on my computer was up to date, uninstalled and reinstalled all line 6 components and still no luck.

It's important to know that piece of info because that could be the difference between a hardware and software problem.

1.01 is an older version of the firmware. The current version is 1.31 (and comes with additional amp models and bug fixes). You can download the software here ---> http://line6.com/software/readeula.html?rid=4019 and try installing it using Line 6 Monkey.

O thanks for letting me know what version Flash Memory you have on the POD. The fact that the POD itself is showing a Flash Memory version is a good sign.
Try this; power the POD on while holding down the D footswitch. This will put the PD into calibration mode. Let's see if we can get the POD to update while in that mode.

well the 2 other computers i have access to are my other home computer and my work computer. the problem is both are power pc macs not intel macs so they aren't compatible with podhd edit software.

I suggest that you
A-:
1-Uninstall the current version of "LINE MONKEY" and the current driver and install an early driver Version 4.1.1.7
2-Download the first version of line 6 monkey that supports the HD300 by going to line 6 software and when you do the search put a tick next to ARCHIVE and Download version 1.34 (the first version of the monkey to recognize fimware 1.01)
3-Download Firmware 1.1
Install Monkey 1.34 and see if that can recognize your firmware 1.01.
If A works you need two more moves:
B-
Uninstall Monkey 1.34 and move up to the next one that supports Firmware 1.22
C-The last monkey you should download that support the latest firmware 1.3 is Monkey Version 1.36
I would stay with the first driver until I upgrade to the latest firmware then I would downlad the latest Line 6 Edit and latest drivers

here's an update. i was able to connect it last night to a friends laptop so it's something to do with my computer. i have an up to date high performance computer but something is conflicting with the podhd.
i have a new question. after connecting my podhd to my friends computer i was able to make everything on my podhd up to date. i also put tons of presets on it. now if i try to hook the podhd to my computer again and it doesn't recognize the usb port will i loose any of the presets i uploaded from my friends computer?

You didn't actually put new presets on your POD. You put new amp models on it when you updated it. No, you will not lose those amp models or those new parameters you got from the update. At least we know your POD is fine. At this point, I think you should create a new thread and mark it as a question for our reps. There's a little check box to make a thread a question when you post a new thread. Make sure it's checked. Explain your system set up and your computer specs so the reps know the details.
Good to know it's not the POD though.
P.S. I'm not actually a support rep in case you were wondering. I am a Line 6 employee but I think the support guys are better prepared to help you out with your computer.

right i got the new amp models but i also went to custometone and loaded any preset that i thought would sound halfway decent. i actually didn't have a guitar with me so i still haven't heard all the presets i loaded. i want to continue trouble shooting but i don't wanna take a step backwards and loose the updates and new presets.

The only way you'll lose presets if you reinstall the flash memory. If you're just troubleshooting driver connectivity issues then your presets are safe.

Also, when you update the firmware there's an option to retain existing presets - you don't need to replace them.
If you need to update the firmware to get your driver/computer issues worked out you can choose this option. Then when you get HD500 Edit communicating properly with your computer you can save all the presets you want to your computer, then update the firmware again - this time replacing existing presets to get the latest factory presets - and then use HD500 Edit again to reload your saved presets.

Also,
Either while conencted to your friend's laptop, or when you get yours working, Save the bundle on to the PC using HD500 Edit. That way, if you ever lose the presets, you can just download the bundle again instead of having to start from scratch.
