POD X3 Live BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH!!!!

Hello there,

I've been using my X3 Live for quite some time now. And recently on getting familiar with  some of the recording software like fl studio and Cubase I thought of doing some recording work.
I've got two issues first one is the critical one,i.e,Blue Screen of Death!!
There's no particular timing of it,i.e, it comes in at random after almost any sec,min or hour I connect my unit to the PC via USB.

My second Problem is..

On trying to monitor my sounds in FL studio or Cubase(both reacting the same way) I get a minor latency in the output. Its so light that it comes in soon as I play a note and thus gives it an echo kinda sound which is really irritating.

I've tried reducing the latency through the asio panel of the X3 but no matter what I do, the latency on FL Studio remains with a buffer of 512(12ms).

I know I might not have been able to explain myself clearly but any help will be appreciated.

Looking forward to get a reply.

Robin Francis

I am not going to say that this is the problem (and I am prepared to be corrected on this one) but when I looked it up Windows 7 Eternity is a hacked version of Windows7, not supported by Microsoft and has all updating turned off. It is entirely possible that the BSOD you are getting is because of some non standard Windows hacks that were put in to circumvent the the OS.

        I found this when I did a search http://www.howtogeek.com/forum/topic/windows-7-eternity

I sincerely hope that I am wrong and that somebody will chip in with a solution for you.

        Good Luck

        John

Re: POD X3 Live BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH!!!!

From your point of view I am pleased that the problem was replicated - means it isn't your copy of Windows 7.

I am currently using the HD500 on Windows 7 Ultimate and also Windows 7 Pro and haven't experienced the BSOD at all (I got it a lot with my X3 - but not with the HD).

This was the reason why I bought the HD - I know that doesn't help you with your X3 problems. In the end for me it was wort updating to an HD, costly I know. I know for a fact that part of my problem was that I have an older X3 that experiences the USB audio drop out (based on the other symptoms I was having and the SN of the unit). One of these days I will send the X3 in to get the free repair done. Fact is the problems didnt manifest themselves until I upgraded to a new computer running Windows 7.

As I said, hopefully somebody else who knows a bit more than me can chip in on this.

            Best of luck sorting it.

            Cheers

            John

                  Hi again Robin

no conclusive answer, sorry. But the X3L (actually most line6 kit) is very picky about the USB side of things. I am absolutely sure that you have made sure that you aren't using a hub (even an internal one). I have heard it said that purchasing a new internal USB2 Card can resolve issues like this. Not as expensive as updating to an HD, but of course no guarantee that it will work.

It is also possible that your X3 is suffering from the USB audio drop out problem, which if it is the case could (in my opinion) be tripping up your system when it happens and could be causing the BSOD.

If it is down to the USB drop out then there is a free lifetime fix for this offered by Line6. You can tell by the serial if you might have the problem. All units that have serial number 21X3L1S591....... or later have had the fix already applied. If your serial is lower then it is possible that you have the problem Have a look at the following:-

                  http://line6.com/support/message/138160#138160

If you do need to have the fix done contact your service center and ask them to look up Line6 technical bulletin #52.

This could also be worth a look - it is a document on optimizing the USB on your system for Line6 stuff

                  http://line6.com/support/docs/DOC-4282

As I said these are only suggestions.

                  Good Luck

Re: POD X3 Live BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH!!!!

If the POD X3 is assigned as the system's sound card, unplugging it from the USB or powering it off can cause the computer to blue screen. If the system is blue screening without you unplugging or turning off the POD X3, it is possible that there is an intermittent USB connection, and when the connection drops it cause the system to crash.

I would suggest that you have the POD X3 Live looked at by a Line 6 Service Center. To find one in your area you can use the finder at the link below:

                      http://line6.com/service_centers/

Your dealer should also be able to help you located a repair center for you as well.

                      Hi,

I have both problems described in this thread ( occasionnal blue screen of death and audi drop out). Did you manage to solve your problem?

Re: POD X3 Live BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH!!!!

I am gutted. I have the same problem and didn't know about it.

I just received a new i7 Scan Computer this weekend: http://3xs.scan.co.uk/ShowSystem.asp?SystemID=1465

I installed a new copy of Cubase 7 within the first three days of use, I had about ten crashes.

My system even became buggy and had problems shutting down.

What a drag! A new computer messed up by Pod X3L!!  Argggh!!!

I didn't know what the problem was until I read this thread. For what it's worth, I've instigated a Ticket with Line 6.

But will Line6 actually do anything about it?

I hate the thought of having to purchase another product (HD) just to solve the problem.

But I also use Reason 6.5 a lot and enjoy the Line6 amps available in that product and the ability to record the "Dry" guitar.

All drivers are up to date on both the X3L and Windows and Cubase. I understand that Line6 provides some sort of support for this problem?

Any solutions / suggestions would be appreciated re: using Pod X3L with Cubase.

Re: POD X3 Live BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH!!!!

I have a similar problem but I don't have to have anything open: Pro Tools, Cubase or anything else. It's only sometimes and only on POD startup and doesn't matter whether I have power or USB connected first.

On my first complaint of this I was told it wasn't heard of and would be assumed to be a repair issue. I actually thought it was loading the USB line too heavily but found the same problem connecting to powered USB strip.

The only solution I found was starting up the computer with USB connected and POD already powered up- annoying at best and I don't want to leave my POD on all the time or restart my computer every time I want to use the POD.

It's too bad. I thought it was otherwise a great piece of equipment. I hope if anyone finds a solution they will post. I will do the same.

Very interesting. I have to modify my last statement. While investigating I checked Device Manager POD500, and found some big yellow question marks, so I attempted to update the driver, as it asked. Windows found the driver and attempted to update it, about three seconds into it...the familiar blue screen, with me doing nothing else. Maybe I should've disconnected the hardware first?
