    Hi,

The quality of a tone is pretty subjective. This video should helpyou get started:

    http://line6.com/support/docs/DOC-2525

Next, checkout creating and balancing tones:

    http://line6.com/support/docs/DOC-4537

And finally, you can download a tone of tones that are ready to tweak from customtone.com:

    http://line6.com/customtone/

Also, Checkout the HD500 Advanced guide:

    http://line6.com/data/6/0a06434d5f004f286bebc8142/application/pdf/POD%20HD500%20Advanced%20Guide%20-%20English%20%28%20Rev%20B%20%29.pdf

    Thanks,

    David

Try also having a read through Forum user Meambobbo's guide to building high gain tones here -->http://line6.com/support/thread/71651.  If you have sustain issues:  make sure that your guitar also sustains reasonably well in the first place.  If you have very little sustain, the POD cannot really fix this - though it can help a little. .

You might also look at Input Impedance as this can affect how a given guitar interacts with the POD and may affect your sustain.  Check this out in the advanced manual or by searching the forum here.  The Input Impedance (Z) settings can be found in the Global Options for the POD.

also how can i go from one tone to the next by stompbox, ?

I don't understand what you mean by this.  Can you explain more?
