Lead boost

I had to trade in my trusty stomp box's to get the M13. Im having to problems. One getting a Octave like my Digitech Whammy. All the Octaves I have tried color the sound and add drive. This is giving me major trouble. My Whammy octave was a big part of my sound. And I use to use a Boss DS-1 Super Overdrive. I would boost my leads with it. Now I tried a few overdrives at practise. None of them are boosting enough. You can hear my lead. But not enough to hear every note. Any suggestions? Or did I make a big mistake getting rid of those pedals ![]()

Ok I got my Octave figured out. But I have been tryin for hours to boost my drive channel for a lead. No luck. The only way I get close is to go threw the loop. And that just sounds bad. Im already tryin freakin out that Im gonna have to return this thing. I cant belive the overdrive pedals wont boost like a real overdrive pedal
I'm using the "Comp Boost" with the sustain very low and the output very high. I have it before the input, like a stomp box.
What did you end up using for your octave? Are you using an expression pedal with it to create a whammy pedal? I haven't tried to set something like that up yet.
Ive tried the comp boost. Have you tried the Comp Boost in a band setting? I really cant get ANYTHING to boost enought to get over the band. Its kills me because my Super Overdrive would do it no problem. Im tryin to figure out how to return this thing and try and get all my pedals back. Its a bummer this M13 is useless to me now. And Im out all my stomp box's. Why they would leave so little head room is beyond me. A stomp box has way more then what there putting in this m13. If it wasnt for that I could use this thing on stage. All those overdrives and nothing I can do with any of them. I know there has to be some lead players here that boost there drive channel with a stomp box. There is no way there doing this with a M13.
The octave I went with Sub Octave Fuzz
Drive is around 25% Output 75%
This is as close to a ctuall stomp Octave I could get. I use Octave on clean and dirty. So it dirtys my clean a bit. But pretty close.
Does anyone know if this overdrive stomp problem is getting fixed in a update? I really need to find out fast so I know if I need to rush back to guitar center and try and get my stomp box's back that actually work!
for a boost it depends on how you use your M13. but the comp gain needs to be after the amp to increase volume (in an amps loop) if you put it before the amp it'ss be a little more volume, but more gain too.
you may need to use a different amp setting to do exactly what you want.
I am sure you are looking for a m13 on board effect to use for your boost. I use a Fulltone Fat Boost and I have it after the M13 going to the amp. It works very well with volume boost. One problem I do have is if I am running a loop it will boost the volume on that also when it is on. I have always been a fan of using a stand alone pedal for a boost. I used a Matchless Cool Box in the past.
2 things...
First, You should be able to boost with the ODs or the Comps on the M13. There are times when I can't get the damn thing NOT to boost. If you are running through your FX Loop via 4 Cable Method make sure that you have the loop placement set somewhere after 1 or more of the FX Modules. It defaults to "Pre All" and that really makes it sound bad.
Second, if you do have to return it, be prepared to pay sticker price for every pedal you traded at Guitar Center. They have some rediculous No Trade Backs policy that cost me 3 hours of my life one day. And at the time, I was an employee.
I returned it today. I dont want to have to run overdrive threw the loop to get a boost. Thats just silly. I want it to work like a real stomp box. I ordered a Fullton Fulldrive 2. I got a Dan-Echo, it has a slap back and a delay at the flick of a switch. A Boss Super Octive. Plantet Waves Strobe tuner. BBE Sonic Stomp. And a Keely Comp. All about the same as a M13. And is already blowin the doors off the M13. This is what I should have done in the first place. Thanks for tryin to help all. If the make the M13 work more like REAL stomp box's I may try it again. But not for a long, long, long, time.

Well, I'm glad you're happy, but to me you've lost a lot of controllability. I just can't imagine that the M13 didn't have enough boost, but oh well.
Personally, I'm fine using a few other dirt pedals with my M13 because all of the other effects are so good. I guess if you really want a specific effect, though, you might as well order what you wan.
Yea, I just shouldn't have to run a overdrive threw the loop to do that. A normal overdrive you dont have to. I tried several gain structures as well. The best response was with really no gain. I played a lot with channel volume vs. master as well. I guess I just expected the M13 to be JUST like real stomp box's. But try it and you will see what I mean. Fire up your dirty rhythm. Kick in a overdrive to boost over a band for leads. When I played like that by myself, it wasn't a lot of boost. But seemed like enough to do it. As soon as I was in a real band setting. I found real quick that its loud enough to hear the lead. But not enough to articulate the lead for all ears. The Fulltone fixed that. As far as loosing versatility. Not so much. My Dan-Echo has a switch on top for slap back, and delay at the flick of a switch. I only need one octave. Or flange ect ect. If they make it all work just like a real stomp in time I will consider trying it again as I said before. But I think the M13 is a good start to a great idea. They fell short. And Im sure in two three years they will knock it out of the park. But for now they need to get back to the drawing board. And the next M13 type unit they build will be a smash.

wow, I think you took it back a little too soon.
I'm sure is was a config issue, and that once you found what setting was causing it, you would have had a great setup. I can't run with some of the models in the M13 anywhere near 100% gain and level otherwise it's just too much gain, and I play high gain most of the time (usually with a high gain amp, and an OD pedal too from the M13).
i think the issue about hooking up an external OD box isn't that you need it, but some people HAVE to have a certain sound, and let's face it, the M13 models most sounds you would probably want, but there's a few that it doesn't do... you know, if your aim is to sound exactly like a certain guitarist, you'd need the same or similar kit... so you're right to think that you should be able to just use an M13, and for most people, they do.
anyway, you are the only person who can decide if something's right for you, and so if the M13 wasn't working for you, then you made the right choice...

Heres my problem...
I love my clean amp sound (Dr. Z, Maz Jr)
For my dirty patch I stomp on Pedal A to activate my tube screamer on my M9 with the output at around 90%. (that boosts my volume where I need it, so its just a little louder than my clean amp setting)
What Pedal should I designate on button B or C to give me a lead boost on the M9?
I haven't had much luck finding a boost in decibals for my leads.... which in truth should be a clean boost when playing with A off anyway.. in theory...
Thanks
I've been using my m13 with my mkII SHORTboard. It has a boost built into there that seems to work.
I use a volum pedal i the loop when i play rythem, and turn the volum of for a volum boost on leeds, i works fine for me and as the volum pedal is in the loop it is after the preamp so the sound of the amp does not suffer so mutch.
