Lead boost

I had to trade in my trusty stomp box's to get the M13. Im having to problems. One getting a Octave like my Digitech Whammy. All the Octaves I have tried color the sound and add drive. This is giving me major trouble. My Whammy octave was a big part of my sound. And I use to use a Boss DS-1 Super Overdrive. I would boost my leads with it. Now I tried a few overdrives at practise. None of them are boosting enough. You can hear my lead. But not enough to hear every note. Any suggestions? Or did I make a big mistake getting rid of those pedals

I'm using the "Comp Boost" with the sustain very low and the output very high. I have it before the input, like a stomp box.

What did you end up using for your octave? Are you using an expression pedal with it to create a whammy pedal? I haven't tried to set something like that up yet.

for a boost it depends on how you use your M13.  but the comp gain needs to be after the amp to increase volume (in an amps loop) if you put it before the amp it'ss be a little more volume, but more gain too.

you may need to use a different amp setting to do exactly what you want.

I am sure you are looking for a m13 on board effect to use for your boost. I use a Fulltone Fat Boost and I have it after the M13 going to the amp. It works very well with volume boost. One problem I do have is if I am running a loop it will boost the volume on that also when it is on. I have always been a fan of using a stand alone pedal for a boost. I used a Matchless Cool Box in the past.

          2 things...

First, You should be able to boost with the ODs or the Comps on the M13. There are times when I can't get the damn thing NOT to boost. If you are running through your FX Loop via 4 Cable Method make sure that you have the loop placement set somewhere after 1 or more of the FX Modules. It defaults to "Pre All" and that really makes it sound bad.

Second, if you do have to return it, be prepared to pay sticker price for every pedal you traded at Guitar Center. They have some rediculous No Trade Backs policy that cost me 3 hours of my life one day. And at the time, I was an employee.

Well, I'm glad you're happy, but to me you've lost a lot of controllability.  I just can't imagine that the M13 didn't have enough boost, but oh well.

Personally, I'm fine using a few other dirt pedals with my M13 because all of the other effects are so good.  I guess if you really want a specific effect, though, you might as well order what you wan.

wow, I think you took it back a little too soon.

I'm sure is was a config issue, and that once you found what setting was causing it, you would have had a great setup.  I can't run with some of the models in the M13 anywhere near 100% gain and level otherwise it's just too much gain, and I play high gain most of the time (usually with a high gain amp, and an OD pedal too from the M13).

i think the issue about hooking up an external OD box isn't that you need it, but some people HAVE to have a certain sound, and let's face it, the M13 models most sounds you would probably want, but there's a few that it doesn't do... you know, if your aim is to sound exactly like a certain guitarist, you'd need the same or similar kit... so you're right to think that you should be able to just use an M13, and for most people, they do.

anyway, you are the only person who can decide if something's right for you, and so if the M13 wasn't working for you, then you made the right choice...

          Cheers

    Re: Lead boost

    Heres my problem...

I love my clean amp sound (Dr. Z, Maz Jr)

For my dirty patch I stomp on Pedal A to activate my tube screamer on my M9 with the output at around 90%. (that boosts my volume where I need it, so its just a little louder than my clean amp setting)

What Pedal should I designate on button B or C to give me a lead boost on the M9?

I haven't had much luck finding a boost in decibals for my leads.... which in truth should be a clean boost when playing with A off anyway.. in theory...

    Thanks

    Re: Lead boost

I use a volum pedal i the loop when i play rythem, and turn the volum of for a volum boost on leeds, i works fine for me and as the volum pedal is in the loop it is after the preamp so the sound of the amp does not suffer so mutch.
