about pod hd300 fx category

Hi, i'm planing to buy a pod hd300, but i've some question about the fx category, i've read the online manual and knew that the "gain", "various" and "pitch" are in the same FX1 category, is it possible to use like: Distortion+sustain+pitch glide in same time?(preset and manual mode).

Many thanks

You can only use one item from each FX module at a time. In other words you can use one model from FX1, one model from FX2 and one model from FX3 UNLESS you buy a POD HD500. The 300 and 400 lets you use 4 fx at a time while the 500 lets you use 8. I bought my POD HD 300 a little over 2 weeks ago-almost 3. I wish that I would have waited until all issues are resolved. I have to decide within the next week if I want to keep it or return it  (after that I can return it for store credit but not for cash refund. There is no way to know when the POD 300 and 400 updates will be available or even if there will be any forthcoming at all. Members on here seem to believe that they're coming but there is NO official word from Line6 about it at all.

Afetr all the hype that has been printed regarding the POD HDs in guitar magazines, retailer catalogs (with product reviews), I have to say that I'm quite disappointed with Line6.  This is my very first Line6 product and the experience has not been a good one-at least for me. This may well be the last Line6 product that I purchase.  I THINK that I like the POD HD300 itself- I just don't like the way that Line6 is handling the 300 and 400 and the 'issues".  Maybe they will change my mind in the next week. If not then this POD will be going back to Sweetwater and probably exchanged for a Vox ToneLab LE or a Fender Mustang V (stereo) halfstack (what I should have bought in the first place)

Re: about pod hd300 fx category

I had similar concerns like you did before I bought my HD300 and I didn't have the money for the 500 at the time.  I probably would have gone with the HD500 if I had the money just becuase of the cheer amount of advantages it has such as SPDIF, flexible routing, dual amp etc etc...But I'm quite happy with my 300 for the following reasons:

1-Ok so I can't put Distortion pedal before a compressor pedal, but in real life with real life amps I don't do that. In my situation after years of playing and growing as a player, I like amp distortion and think it's way better than any disortion pedal.  I can see puting an overdrive or compressor infront of the amp and  I can do that with HD300,  and that's really how the best soudning rock and heavy metal sounds on most record came from not from a distortion pedal and a compressorl infront of a clean amp. THe Fireball simulation, the dual rectifier etc, in the 300 are very close to real life counterparts and that's why you will find many people complaining about not being able to get a good metal sound ouf of them.  I hate to say it but if you didn't play real tube amps in real life but relied and pedals, when you work with a simulation that is close to the real thing you will have the same issue that most players will go through before they switch to a tube amp.  I remember when I used to play pedals infront of solid state amps. When I first played with a tube marshall, i didn't understand how other players were getting huge muscular sounds when I felt more comfortable with my Pedal and solid state amps.

The short answer you will still get stunningly amazing sounds with a pod HD300 because even though it pales in comparison with the HD500 flexibility, the 300 and 400 have the same core models and many more effects than needed to keep you busy for a long time.  Having said that if line6 ever offer an upgrade to the 300 that will give the software flexiblity routing, I would certainely pay for that, but I'm not selling my 300 to buy the 500 even though I can currently afford to, i simply get many many sounds that inspire me to play and that's what it's all about

Re: about pod hd300 fx category

Hi, crucifycheng.  I had a Boss ME70 for almost two years and to be perfectly honest with you I didn't like it too much although I tried to. I was never completely happy with the tones that I got out of it and spent a lot of time "tweaking" to try to get there,it wasn't terrible but the POD HD does have far superior tone. I found the Boss ME70 to be quite 'noisy'  I mean well beyond the typical single coil noise-it actually made my Les Paul sound like it was humming and buzzing.  After having iit for about 20 months (from Sweetwater Sound-they have their own two year gaurantee on products that you purchase from them) I contacted Sweetwater about it and they sent me out a brand new one, but it sounded the same. It does have a noise reduction feature on it but even maxxed out it still made lots of noise and robbed me of tone and volume. I even ran independant grounds to the metal chassis but even that didn't help. So back went both ME70's and eventually I ended up purchasing the POD HD 300.

I do like the POD HD 300-so far. It has great tone. I haven't downloaded the updates or Firmware (or even the Line 6 Monkey) yet, because it seems that they don't have the bugs all worked out of that yet and I'm considering waiting for the next (anticipated) update. Line6 does not post any information about when any updates might be coming out nor what these updates contain, but apparently that is how Line6 chooses to play the game. Personally, I don't think that the POD HDs were ready for market and shouldn't have been released when they were. I think that they should have waited until they had a fully and properly functioning unit and a support base in place before release, but I guess that's just my opinion-take it for what it's worth.

Like I said, I think that I like the POD HD alright, I just don't like the way Line 6 operates.  This is my first Line 6 product ever  (and I have an entire studio's worth of equipment and enough for nearly two bands-and I've been playing for 43 years-so I'm no newcomer).  This-my first experience with Line 6 has definately been a memorable one but not a good one. So you might want to take a chance and stick with the POD HD.  If not, you might want to check out the VOX Tonelab LE  or even the Tonelab ST(less money). I've heard and read some good things on those.

Last but not least-the Rumor Mills have it that the BIG MANUFACTURERS-Boss(?), Digitech, Zoom and a couple of others are all about to release new versions of their Multi-FX pedals (and amp sims) in direct competition to the Line6 POD HDs.  So, I believe that there are some very interesting things about to happen in the very near future.

ALSO-keep an eye on Fender-they are hot and heavy on the whole modeling-sim-fx bandwagon. Check out the new Fender Mustang Amplifiers-WOW! The Fender Mustang v amp head-150(stereo) watts for $299 and a STEREO 4x12 cabinet (with specially voiced modeling speakers) also for $299--THAT'S 150 WATT STEREO HALF STACK WITH OVER 100 PRESETS (amp models)AND OVER 37 EFFECTS---ALL FOR ONLY $598. (not much more than a POD 500). They also have 20 watt, 40 watt and 100 watt versions available.

Don't let the Tube Amp Tone Snobs sway you...if they all had such wonderful Tube Amps then WTF do they need to be modeling them for?   I find that the POD 300 delivers a pretty convincing tube tone into my solid state amp and if that weren't enough I'd just run into a tube preamp, but that isn't necessary with the POD HDs, in fact I probably would NOT recommend running into a tube preamp.  Good Luck with your quest and remember-half the FUN is the research and the shopping for new equipment.

BUT I'm just a guy with two quarters stuck in the Dollar Store.

Well, crucifycheng, I'm not entirely sure if I did you any favors if I talked you out of buying a POD HD 300, it is a pretty awesome sounding pedal. I have nothing against the POD HD so much as I'm just not happy with the way Line 6 does things. Are you planning your purchase at a local store or do you plan to order from the internet.  The reason that I ask is because Sweetwater Sound has a thirty day return policy and Musician's Friend has a forty-five day policy (both are Internet Stores), so you could order your POD HD 300 from one of them and have 30 to 45 days to try it out and then if you decide you're not happy with it you can return it for a refund or to purchase something different.  If you "google"  Sweetwater.com and then search for the Vox Tonelab ST or the Vox Tonelab LE they have soundbyte samples of what the pedal can do. I'm sure that you already know that you can also go to YouTube  and search for any of the pedals that you might be interested in and hear them all in use there. Have fun, my friend and keep rockin-Jim

i think if you read between the lines you will get the jist to by the hd500 or another brand. the 300 is crap in almost everyway unless your a beginer. you get a tone, but barely usable.specially for metal. the effects block usage alone is worth moving on to something else. let alone ALL the other glitches it has.
