Can the DT amp do L6 link and xlr outputs at the same time?

I figure this is probably a no but I figured I would ask. I'm 2/3 of the way to the dream rig and my only real thing holding me back is the fact that you cant do 2 different output modes from the HD500 like you can (from what I have read on forums) on the X3live. I want to be able to do all my regular tones into the DT25 and then more acoustic stuff into the PA. If this is not possible, what have you guys done in order to acomplish this task?

Use the out of an FX loop for your acoustic patches.  That also keeps you from depending on the FOH guys to turn you off when you're on the electric, etc.

I've sometimes used a cheap Behringer Ultra GI GI100 DI box (or a pair) with inbuilt switchable cab emulation to give the PA a speaker emulated signal whilst using standard guitar amp from the 1/4" outs, but the DT25 or DT50 have a good speaker emulated DI out anyway.  The other way as suggested is to insert the FX Loop effect at the end of your signal chain for acoustic signals or modelled acoustic signals, take an acoustic amp or PA feed from the FX Send  and keep the output level of the FX Loop to 0% to stop anything going to your amp.

Then again, if I were fortunate enough to also have access to the POD HD Pro as well which I can control from the POD HD500, I could set up a completely independent signal chain just for the PA in parallel if I wish but that's only appropriate if for some reason you do have an HD500 + an HD Pro or perhaps two HD Pro units   Some users do have this luxury.

Hi Christian - you can do the same thing from either, but it depends on how you want you stage sound to work.  You can send independent audio signals from the POD HD500 to your DT25 & the FOH PA Mixer with independent volume control.  It may not be the "ideal" line 6 solution , but it will work if you wish to try.  You use your XLR out to the PA, then instead of using the L6 link to your DT25 you go from 1/4" amp level out (switch on HD500) to the 1/4" input of the DT25.  Use the MIDI channels to access the DT25 topology and other front panel settings.

Another solution, but this requires you to have all your patch levels worked out with your PA situation in mind during your performances.  I you choose this option, then you L6 link your HD500 or X3L to the DT25, then use the DT25 XLR out to the FOH PA.  Your acoustic patches would be made with out an "amp" although your DT25 will still be producing your sounds on stage.  however, with patches set up properly, you can send your no amp acoustic patch signal directly through the DT25 without any corruption by the amp or any settings on the amp as the XLR out will only reproduce what you "tell" the DT25 to do.  The DT25 will "have to" produce a clean near perfect acoustic tone if you build a patch that is the exact sound you want coming from the PA.  You'll not hear the ultra highs and sibilance that a tweeter or horn produces, but you're on stage and it's what the audience hears that matters more, right?

Two simple solutions to getting your current X3L or future HD500 units as well as your DT25 amp and JTV guitar to work for you instead of against you.  I hope you might try one or both of these set-ups and let me know what you think.  Good or bad, I can't learn how other players situations are helped or hurt by my suggestions if no one writes back what they thought of my suggestions.  I know what works for me, but it's you that my suggestions need to help.

    Take care,

    Neal

I'm trying to accomplish the same stage sound setup: JTV-69 + HD500 connected via L6 Link to a DT25 and at the same time a XRL-output to the PA. But shouldn't you use the pre-amps for all the amps in your presets when connecting the HD500 via L6 Link to a DT25? Isn't the soundpalet of a pre-amp-version in the HD500 different then the normal amp-version?

And what about the output settings. When you connect the HD500 via L6 Link to a DT25 it automaticly sets the output settings of the HD500 to Combo Power Amp. Doesn't that drasticly change to overall sound for the PA connection via the XLR-outs, since the output settings in a PA setup with the HD500 in general use Studio/Direct?

I also tried using the Cabinet Simulated Direct OUT of the DT25 to connect to the PA. The problem i get there is that we use our PA as a backline at live performances in combination with in ear-systems. At rehearsals volumes don't need to be that loud, but lowering the volume of the DT25 will effect our backline settings. Still haven't figured out what's the most ideal setup.

      Any ideas or suggestions?

I've just finished reading you post, but I just wanted to jump in real wuick to acknowledge it.  I have several scenarios for you and your set-up.  I have to head out on business for a few hours.  I'll come back later tonight to type them out and hope that one or more of my possible solutions will work for you.

        Take care,

About using Preamps only - no, the choice is yours to use either full models or preamp models.  Full models take up more DSP resources, but the end result is what you are trying to get.  You'll have to experiement and hear which work best for your stage set up.

Yes - the POD HD unit does default to combo pwr amp, but you can change it to Studio/Direct and you will hear a huge difference in the sound coming from your DT amps as well as the PA.

To be honest - I've never heard of a PA becoming the backline in a live performane situation.  I'm a bit stumped what to suggest in that situation.  The only thing I can think of would be trial and error with the balance of amp volume and PA volume.

I hope some of these suggestion help.
