Mobilizer Failing

Greetings -

 

I've had and used the MIDI Mobilizer successfully for over a year. Recently, it has not been able to dump files to my synths. Here's what I've tried:

 

I have an old Alesis Datadisk, which stores and loads sounds just fine, so the problem is not in the synth.

 

I have two iPods and have tried them both without success, so the problem is not in the iPod.

 

My files are for a Kurzweil PC88. A full load is about 1:40. The Mobilizer blinks while in load/dump mode for about 7 seconds, then goes dark while 20 seconds go by, then blinks for another few seconds, then goes dark until the end of the file.

 

I've updated both my iPod and Mobilizer software/firmware to the latest version, and jiggled the cords to see what difference that might make (none that I can see.) Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

    Were you previously able to succesfully dump files to the same synth using the MIDI Mobilizer?

     

    Have you tried sending the dump into a MIDI monitor program of some kind to validate whether or not the MIDI Mobilizer connections are still sending information correctly? If not, I would suggest that give that a try to validate whether or not the MIDI Mobilizer is sending the dump file correctly or not.

      Thanks for the reply Line6Don. How would I send anything from the MIDI Mobilizer to my computer? I have a Windows computer (XP SP3) and the only outputs from the MM are the MIDI Out and the Apple connector.

        You'd need a MIDI-to-USB interface to get MIDI data into a host PC or Mac. Something like this: http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/Uno.html

         

        I just took a screenshot of my work PC, which has MIDI-OX (a free MIDI monitoring program) installed. It let's me monitor any incoming or outgoing MIDI transmissions. This is what Don was referencing as a possible tool to see if the MIDI Mobilizer is sending MIDI Out.

          Thanks for the reply Line6Perry, and sorry for the delay in resonding. I now have MIDI-OX installed and the Uno MIDI interface, but as you know it terminates in male ends as the MIDI Mobilizer cables do. I can't plug one into the other.

           

          Before I start shopping for a couple of female-to-female MIDI adapters, I'll wait to hear exactly how you got this to work. Looking forward to your reply. Thank you!

            Right... now I see the point of concern: you're trying to output the data from your iPhone/iPad/iPhone to a host computer, but I think I may have made a mistake in suggesting the UNO model from M-Audio; in hindsight it would've been better to recommend this MIDISport 1x1 or 2x2 interfaces (those have female MIDI ports on them versus the male MIDI jacks. This is my fault for not having completely thought of that. The UNO is more for devices that have female MIDI jacks on them.

             

            Having said that, the next best thing would be to get a hold of two female to female MIDI adapters (or, if you went out and actually bought the MIDISport UNO recently, perhaps exchange it for a 1x1: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/keyboards-midi/m-audio-usb-midisport-1x1-midi-interface/701258000000000?src=3WWRWXGB&ZYXSEM=0&gclid=COG644G4qK8CFYYHRQodRChYYQ

             

            I really do feel bad if you went and bought the UNO after reading my post. I normally give that suggestion out of habit, since that's the unit we have here in the office for updating our older amps and M13/M9/M5's successfully with. But, ultimately once you get the physical MIDI connections made, you should be able to see the datastream in MIDI-OX, once you have the MIDI Input/Outputs setup in that program's preferences set correctly.
