Best metal amp modeled from Line 6

Still expermenting but ya so far I agree overall Tread sounds best with the different cabs/mics I have tried.
I have a POD X3L and haven't tried the a POD HD, but I'm actualy a big fan of the Line6 models. Lunatic has become my goto model for metal tone. One of the reasons that I haven't got an HD is that they dropped all of their custom models. I tend to use those more than the models based on real amps.
Grimm26 I agree with you man, the modern high gain, lunatic, and insane was a hell of amps! Also clean was nice. But those was L6 originals, not models.Anyway, I miss those amps (I have a Pod HD500 ), and I tried to recreate those tones (although the modern high gain and clean are from the few I can not )
Wonder if we can use those patches from the X3L ? Never seen one. I have an HD500 myself. I do like the Treadplate the best I must say. But I would like to hear the Lunatic patch.

I've been using the XT Live for a couple years now and I use the Treadplate (with the Treadplate cab and condenser mic) for my metal rhythms. I just picked up the HD500 last weekend and it appears I'll be using the Treadplate on that as well (with the Uber can and 87 condenser mic). I'm a little disappointed with the ENGL amp model on the HD500 but that's probably user error and me just learning the HD ropes. The HD500 Treadplate is great though!
For me the engl simulation in the mix with my band on live work well than other simulation, because the sound is more clear, treadplate sometimes disappear in rithm parts, but it's great in solo parts ![]()
I didn't really care that much for the Treadplate until I mixed it with the Uber cab. Wish they had a sim of the ENGL Savage.
I just got the Rocktron Velocity 300 and I must say the live sound of the Treadplate model and a good high volume is great. Will experiment further cause I just have bought it. I am using the Treadplate recording our new CD and so far it is sounding good. I like to change it up so I will experiment more and report back in.
Man, let me know when you have some stuff out there to listen to. I'd like to hear the Rocktron; they've been around for a while. I believe Boston was famous for using Rocktron distortion, which they had a very unique and saturated tone that stood out during that era. Really interested to hear what their new technology sounds like.
I did alot of research and just have purchased it. I ran it through my Randall cab and man alive it sounds great !! ...Was really impressed. I haven' experimented with it yet. I bet there are some live monster sounds lurking in the HD500. So far I have been running direct from the POD. But I am considering laying down some tracks with a mic in from of the cab as well. Not sure.
Actually I went back to using the Treadplate amp with the Treadplate cabinet and ended up with a pretty solid metal tone. For one track I'm using the 67 condenser mic and the other I use the 421 mic. Gives a slightly different tone (and the 2 rhythm tracks are hard panned). I use the same amp/cab with the 67 mic for leads. I need to get more familiar with tweaking the EQ's. I still favor my old POD XT Live metal tones over the HD500 (of course I've spent many, many hours programming my XT Live over the past couple years).
Anyway, here's a youtube clip of my first HD500 recording: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iUncMWMlsxk
Any chance of sharing the Pod xt Live metal tones?
Man, I just sold my XT Live this weekend...kinda wish I had kept it now that it's gone!
I did make a few videos of my metal tones using the XT Live though, and the settings are posted on the video (Jasons Metal Tones for Rhythm and Leads Part III):

I believe I have the setting posted later within the video while the full song is playing, so you could pause the video there and tweak yours to what I have posted. Hope this helps.
Cheers!
Anyone want to try one of mine?

I have all sorts of HD500 patches which should work with most or all POD HD gear.
Also important is having the right guitar sound to go with the amp although a Banjo in open G tuning played through an Engl Fireball is pretty wild!! LOL
I have many JTV patches posted as well all located in CustomTone under MerlinFL.
I also agree that for the most versatile Metal Amp, the modeled Treadplate is best so far in the POD HD amp family. I still miss many of the older tones that I still get from my older gear. Amps such as the Slo 100, the Missippi Criminal, the Marshall Silver J, Roland Chorus, Citrus, to name just a few. I also mostly use dual amp patches as they always got much better tone and flexibility for my live performances.
Hope this helps,
Neal
Ill go over some of yours from custom tone Merlin and upload something maybe this weekend if I get time.
I've been messing around more with the Fball (ENGL Fireball sim) on the HD500 with the XXL cabinet. I like using the 421 mic for one panned track and the 57 off axis for the other. The Fball makes it easier to get a darker tone, which I prefer (I'm going for something close to Evergrey).
