Flextone III...no sound, resets, etc.

Hello,

I've been using my Flextone III for about a year and a half now. Within the past several months, my amp will shut off, reset itself, and then continue. The sound will cut off, the amber lights will circle around the amp selector knob, and then the amp will come back on to 1 of the 4 channels but will not produce sound. The only way to get it out of this cycle is to shut the amp off and turn it back on. Initially, I was using an FBV2 footswitch and had no problems. I switched to an FBV Express and after about 3 months with that, this problem began occuring. I was able to play for roughly 20 minutes and then the problem would begin. Every time I shut the amp off and turned it back on there after, it just began the problem cycle again. When the footswitch is disconnected, the problem persists only briefly, but goes away eventually. I bought an FBV Shortboard MKII a few months later, figuring the problem had resolved itself. Sure enough, it has returned in the same fashion with the Shortboard attached. I disconnected it and went back to using the same FBV2 footswitch I had zero problems with for months, but the problem still exists when using that footswitch. I AM IN DESPERATE NEED OF HELP!!!

With sincere thanks,

Ryan

    fordtorino,

It sounds like there could be a problem with the Flextone hardware, but I recommend that you perform a reset on the amp by holding the 'A' and 'D' buttons on the amp as you power it on.

You can also try re-installing the flash memory using the Line 6 Monkey software and a MIDI connection to the amp.

If the problem persists, you will need to take it to an authorized service center to take a look:

      Regards,

      fordtorino...

and with no disrespect intended Mr L6Hugo... but please do not suggest Flex users make use of L6 Monkey for firmware updates!

It DOES NOT support the Flex series - no matter what you have been told by your engineering team - and fails more often than not.

That is pretty evident if you read these forums regularly !!

Please, please, please.... and I've been saying this to everyone...

DO  NOT USE MONKEY with the FLEX SERIES amps...  it is going to cause you NOTHING BUT TROUBLE

You  will save yourself a lot of grief by staying away from it.

Use L6  Edit or Tweakwiz for patch editing and go here for the firmware  updater.

    fordtorino,

I feel your pain.  I have experienced the exact same symptoms in my Flextone III XL with the FBV Shortboard,  It was very frustrating not being able to access all my presets(only through L6 Edit).

I have since moved to a Behringer FCB1010 MIDI foot controller, and now it works great.  I only lost the tuner function and the alphanumeric display with this change.  However, I can get full MIDI control of any setting in the Flex.  It takes a while to program, but it is well worth the time.  And, thanks to s0c9 for the tip on L6 monkey!
