Hotel California with one guitar player in the Band ...

... can be a quite challenging adventure.
We recently started to play Hotel California in our Band. As I am the only guitar player in the Band, this initially has caused quite a headache to me.
After some discussions with my Keyboarder, we found a working reconciliation of the never ending guitar tracks in that song. And they are awesome! As most parts are signature, I have tried to be very close to the original, with the exceptation of some Acoustic parts. These parts I have played more or less close. ![]()
Without my Line6 Dream Rig (DT50/212, HD500, JTV59 + 69) I would not be able to perform this song in this way. On the following playback (Vocals, Bass, Drums) I recorded all guitar tracks I am playing in my band (with the exception of the reggae rhytmn and the acoustic parts starting with the 2. verse - this is done by the keyboarder in our Band). I am used to do recordings for exercising songs I am playing in my band.
The Acoustic guitar is passed over the FX Send Block to a FR-system and the PA. I am using an alternate Tuning (7th fret) for the Acoustic parts (stored in the HD500 preset) so I can play them in open chord position. The E-Guitars are amplified by my DT50/212 for live performance.
For the polyphonic guitars starting with 2.verse I used the smart Harmony pitch in harmonic minor with a +3 shift (this works for nearly all the phrases).
For the most E-guitar parts I have used the Strat guitar model in my JTV69. The Lead part is played in the first half in the neck position. For the second half of the solo I have used the Gibson ES335. It is quite amazing how much this guitar model is changing the overall sounds while other components remains the same.
For E-Guitars I used the Marshall Plexi 100 Brit Full amp model. This is going to be one of my favourite amps, because this amp nicely cleans & breaks up just the way I hit the strings - awesome to me.
The recording was done directly from the HD500 to an audiointerface (my DT50/212 stays in the rehearsal room - just too heavy
):

All the best, wolbai
Sounds great to me :-)
Where did you get those backing Track?
Hi Dshow,
great that you like it - thank you for that! Here is the website I usually source backingtracks:
http://www.guitarbackingtrack.com/
free of charge. There are lots of mp3-files. Most of them are with different tracks. The quality is very different. There is also a link to a karaokee-site where you can find additional recordings with separate tracks in better quality. These songs costs approx. 3 EUR / song.
All the best, wolbai.
Hey wolbai,
