Volume drop, yikes ...

After some reading here from people who had a volume drop with the HD500, I now can confirm that I also had this yesterday during a gig, almost 40% less volume without any reason on a patch (latest firmware), had to change patch and come back to the same patch to get rid of it, so there's definitely something going on with the HD500 that causes these volume drops ...
Anyone else stil has these from time to time ? Any answer from L6 on this issue ?
thanks,
Hans
No one else has this issue ? thanks
This makes me think of a similiar issue with previous PODs where physical vibrations were causing the channel volume knob (or other phyiscal knobs) to move enough to cause them to change the parameters they control. It's kind of a good practice when using modelers live to leave the knobs on the face of the unit parked at either the max or min position to avoid these sorts of things.
Thanks Phil, are you sure about this ? We're talking about 40% volume drop. I just took a look and the Volume knob is already at max on the device, so I doubt it's related to that.
thanks,
Hans
I'm not saying it necessarily is that in your case, but it has been known to happen. In the case of volume drops, that channel volume knob and the drive knob could be potential culprits. The way to tell if this is what's happening is to look at the amp parameter's page on the HD when the volume drop happens. If they are different from what you had them saved as in the preset, then this could be a possibility.
Do you have links to threads where other people have had mentioned this problem?
I see what you mean Phil, but In my case I only had this happen once, didn't check into the patch, but will do next time,
thanks,
Hans
Hi
I have this volume drop problem on my POD HD Pro, in a bit different flavor. Mine drop much more, would say 80%. Problem is that it doesn't happens that often. First time in February, and three times in May. It's always on power up and it does not matter if I run it with or with my PC hooked up or not. I can change patches and the problem are there until I reboot the unit. I can't see any relation to a patch. No degradation in sound quality what I can hear. In February I thought it was a bug in the software as more then my having the same issue. I upgraded to 1.43 and when 2.02 when it arrived. I hadn't seen any posts in the subject after the 2.02 was released. Thought I was “cured” but “May” changed that.
I have the problem registered with Line6 and got some tip to try. We'll see how it goes. The dialog is going on. I tried to catch the problem on film on power up but didn't get it recorded. I have the issue recorded after power up and on reboot, you can watch it here – http://dl.dropbox.com/u/26726734/L6%20-%20LoVol%20Issue/IMG_0346.MOV, be aware that it's 250 MB... Sorry for my crappy playing on the video, but the focus was to get this on film. As if it's any better other times... ;.)) but a good excuse...
I also want to say that I am very happy with my POD HD Pro, give me a tone to die for and inspire to play. I see this as a glitch, but I do want it fixed. I have my theory on the cause of my problem but will wait for that until some more testing is done... and it does not mean that your problem is the same as mine, but just as a feedback.
I recommend you to register your issue at Line6 tech support.

I have the exact same problem as PerS. I, also, have an open support ticket and Line 6 is working with me. Mine is happening at most every start up and has started bouncing back and forth between soft and loud a couple times before it settles in. I have had the same problem with two different HD Pro's. I figured it was my patches, or my house power, but it happens on gigs and also patches that Line 6 has sent me.
I have recorded the problem successfully with a mic and the xlr outs while filming it, and sent these to LIne 6.
I, too, am happy with the tones I am getting and believe this will be resolved. Line 6 support has been very good to work with.
Texxxx,
A question - I guess you see this on power up only, never in patch change or tweeking any nobs or else...? When you power up, are you powering up anything else at the same time? Like an amp, your mixer, other effects or anything else... having anything causing noice like a fan/blower/hair dryer...;-)) , in the same power strip. Any power conditioner installed like a ea Furman?
I have excluded patches because there has been different every time.
Just currious as I try to narrow my search.
//PerS
Yes, volume drops on power up only, never in patch change or tweaking.
Yes, I have a Mesa 50/50 stereo power amp and a Line 6 G90 Wireless that both plug into a Furman M-8LX along with the HD Pro. The Furman plugs into the wall.
But....at Line 6's suggestion, I have isolated the HD and plugged it into a seperate wall socket by itself and I get the same volume dropping results....
hansvaneven,
Sorry we hijacked your thread here but had to ask thouse questions as you were the first mention the problem since Marsh I think. Does anything that me and Texxxxx describe relate to your problem? Or do you have different symptomes on your HD500? If I understand you correct, you get rid of the drop by changing patch, or did you reboot the unit? Sorry for my questions but english is not my main language and I want to be sure I understand the picture here.
If you have a different symptom I can open a different thread. It looks like we have the same/simelar problem. Texxxxx and I both have our units in a rack (for obvius reasons...) with an amp (me with a InterM 500+/ClassA) with a Fureman (me with a M10X) and both been recomended to plug the unit outside to a separat/different socket. I have also unpluggd my midi cables and my Variax 500 (has been pluggd in from January when I installde it), just to be clean... Have not had any symptoms after the changes (less the two weeks) but definitely not on the safe side.

Hi guys, sorry for the delay, was very busy the last days.
Thanks a lot for sharing your volume issue too, but from I see they don't appear to be the same as mine. Mine happened after a few minutes of playing, then a very important volume change took place, and switching presets removed the issue, couldn't reproduce it so far, but I'm 100% sure it's an HD500 issue, just hope this wouldn't happen anymore, as it's kind of frustrating.
While I'm extremely happy with the sounds of the HD500, and from some years of experience, I have more faith in Roland products, which happen to be more solid and less buggy. But then, you can't ask too much for something made in china ![]()
Cheers,
Hans
Oh, I just have my HD500 and my PA box on the same power ....
Hi hansvaneven,
No it doesn't sound as the same problem. In my case any way, a reboot was the only way to get out of the low volume.
This might be a stupid question, but you never know - When it happend, did anything happen before? Like a spark noice, a bump or anything in ea the speakers? Someone turning on the lights, turning of equipment...
You probably already figgured it out, that I'm suspecting a power issue and something arround the power supply...
No more questions...

That could be possible because indeed there were a lot of things happening when I was playing, between lights etc ... strange though ...
thanks,
Hans
