Output Mode - A Pleasantly Suprised Discovery

I am new to POD HD, have a HD300. Hooked it up to my home made power amp/speaker (Peavey Bravo 112 Cabinet with Stewart Electronics PA50-B Power Amp), amp into the unbalanced mono out, set the output mode switches to AMP/LIVE and played a few power chords on my guitar. It sounded like I was playing through a radio. Scratched my head and moved the output mode switches to LINE/STUDIO and low and behold the tone was there with plenty of bass response. Any ideas out there why it worked with those settings versus the AMP/LIVE which the manual suggests?
I would tend to think that LIVE Mode, LINE Level would be the way to go...Additionally, it might be a good idea to set the Output Mode in the Setup menu to Combo Power Amp as there is some voicing applied there....I think the default is combo front....When set to Studio, the setting has no effect...This is unique to the HD300 and 400...
I would suggest LIVE Mode because of the type of cabinet you are using (a guitar cabinet)....I would pick LINE level becaue you are using a Power Amp...However, if you are digging the tone of Studio Mode, there is thing wrong with that...
ok...will give it a try and report back....Thanks for the suggestion!
Thanks.."Expert User" your suggestion worked.
Just wanted to add that using the "preamp" versus "full" is the way to go with power amps.
you can also dig into the Amp DEP's and turn the Master DEP down to taste. This lets you get the appropriate amount of power amp emulation + the tone of your real poweramp. IE - if you are cranking your real amp, you may want to turn down the Master DEP to near 0, but if you're barely pushing your real amp at all, you may want to turn Master DEP up higher. This is basically how the low volume mode in the DT-XX amps works, but it automatically compensates as you change the Master volume knob on the amp.
+1. Sometimes the power amp is integral to the tone. The AC30 is quite anaemic without it.
Stay in the mix and in the know.
