Pod HD 500 audio and firmware flash problem

Hi i'm a Line 6 Pod HD 500 user from India and i've been having a lot of trouble with my HD 500 lately. The main problem is that from time to time the audio becomes garbled and almost bit-crushed similar to a ring modulated sound. This only started to happen recently and tends to happen while changing/saving presets on the HD Edit software and in some cases on the unit it self. It currently has the latest 2.02 flash firmware and the latest drivers are installed on my 64 bit Win 7 machine.
I tried reinstalling the firmware but since this problem started occuring i've never been able to update or reinstall or even roll back the flash firmware. It usually stalls and displays either "timed out waiting for response from the device" or "unkown hardware error" response. I've tried to update by going into the test mode but even that fails. But apart from this error windows recognises the device fine and line 6 Monkey and HD Edit recognise it as well.
I'm not sure if this is a software or a hardware problem and am considering returning and asking for a different model. I've had this for about 6-7 months but this problem only started about a month or so ago. If i can confirm that this is a problem specific to this particular unit i can try and return it.
I've opened a support ticket for this problem but haven't received a response yet so i've started this discussion hoping to receive some useful feedback from other HD 500 owners. If anyone has any suggestions i'd be very grateful. Thanks in advance.
It really seems like a hardware issue. It would be worth having it fixed under warranty.
Cheers,
Crusty
Thanks Crusty. I'll probably go and ask for an exchange.
Where would I find warranty info on mine? Mine keeps crashing before I can update the firmware.

First of all I would ask my dealer.
Whats new about them not responding. I have personally made my Last Line 6 product purchase! I too never had a problem until doing a update. How can that be a warranty issue. Someone doesn't know what they are doing when the write the firmawre. And we have to pay for their screw up by sending it to a repair facility or purchasing a new item. I will be going back to fender and other manufactuers. Good luck on getting your problem fixed.
