UX2+Gearbox recording reamp tracks in Logic

Hi guys,
I'm having issues with my Line6 UX2 + Gearbox... I want to record dry tracks in Logic Pro but also be able to hear them wet and be able to re-amp them later through the Gearbox plug-in. When assigning Gearbox to a track, it opens but with JUST the dry tone. I have double checked in Logic and software input monitoring is definitely turned on - when using Logics own guitar amp simulators it's fine so I'm confused why it doesn't work with my Line 6?
I'm also thinking of upgrading from Gearbox to possibly Pod Farm 2.5... Is there a major difference in terms of quality of tones? I'm not overly fussed about 1000+ amps and effects or whatever, what I'm after is quality and convincing heavy distortion tones - to me the Gearbox sounds cheap and nasty
Many thanks in advance!
Do you have a Gearbox plug-in license?
The algorisms in POD Farm 2.5 are the same, so no difference in quality, however, there is more flexible routing, up to ten effects per chain in any order.
