UX1 dropouts

How do I eliminate drop outs on my new Line 6 UX1?  Do I have to return this equipment for a refund or repair?

    RE: UX1 dropouts

There are several reasons why you may be getting pops, clicks, and hum with our USB devices. Here are some things you should check first.

      1. Fill out your support profile at http://line6.com/account/supportprofile/

      2. Ensure that you have tested all cables to make sure that they are not defective (USB, audio, etc.)

      3. Ensure that you have all cables connections set up properly

      4. Adjust the Buffer Slider in the Line 6 Audio MIDI Control Panel. (Windows Users: Start/All Programs/Line6/Tools/Audio-MIDI Devices; Mac Users: System Preferences/Other/Audio-MIDI Devices)

      5. Adjust Sample Rates and Bit Depths in the Line 6 Audio MIDI Control Panel and ensure that the Sample Rates and Bit Depth settings in the Line 6 Audio MIDI Control Panel also match the project settings in your DAW/recording application

      6. Ensure that you have the Line 6 device set up in your operating system as the main input/output device (sound card); disable internal sound card in your operating system’s Device Manager control panel

      7. Ensure that your Line 6 USB Device is not connected to a powered USB hub; direct USB ports are required and please try ALL available direct USB ports during the troubleshooting process

      8. Remove all non-essential USB peripherals from the computer (not the mouse or keyboard)

      9. Disable any wireless cards on computer in Device Manager

      10. Set Power Schemes on computer in Control Panel (PC Only) to Always On

      11. There are also several other tips and optimizations you can make on your PC. Please refer to the following document for more information:

      http://line6.com/data/l/0a06007213339477ea0690cb2a/application/pdf/GearBox%203.5%20and%20later%20Windows%20XP%20&%20Vista%20Audio%20Tips%20&%20Optimizations%20(Rev%20A)%20-%20English.pdf

Please try all of the above first and let us know if you continue to have any more problems. Thanks!

    Re: UX1 dropouts

I'm running a Toneport DI Silver that I got for 5 bucks. It is working perfectly now on Windows 7 Ultimate x64 Edition.

I am using the 3.4.3.9 drivers which are HERE

I wrestled with popping and hissing all day yesterday....I literally researched this issue for over 12 hours(hey...being unemployed does have its benefits you know)

I would recommend that you do the following WITH YOUR UX1 CONNECTED! (Not shouting...but it is very important that it stays plugged in at this point)

    1. Hit WIN+BREAK keys at the same time (a little known shortcut). Select Device Manager in the top left corner.

    2. Double Click the "Sound, video and game controllers"

    3. Find your device and double click it

    4. Click the "Driver" tab at the top

    5. Hit the "Uninstall" button and if you get the option to completely remove drivers than do so.

    6. Close all the stuff you opened

    Now the next phase.

    1. Go into Control Panel

    2. Click on "Programs and Features"

    3. Double click the "Line 6 Uninstaller"

    4. Close everything up

    5. Now you can unplug your UX1 unit.

    6. Reboot.

    Phase 3 AND VERY IMPORTANT

Make SURE you have the latest drivers for all of your OTHER devices installed....MOST IMPORTANTLY chipset drivers for your

motherboard. I have an ASUS P5W DH Deluxe motherboard which has the Intel 975X / ICH7 chipset. Although Windows 7 SEEMED to be

working fine for me I kept having hissing and popping issues anytime I would minimize, maximize or move a window whilst I had a DAW running with a VST. If I disabled my Nvidia Geforce 8800 and defaulted to VGA mode the problem would go away. I spent the better part of the day screwing with the video drivers and configs and never got it fixed....until I thought..."the video information is going to be heavier with the GeForce drivers when data is moving through the bus. Lets update the bus drivers and see if that helps." Since I hadn't had any other problems and everything looked good in device manager I had never installed new drivers for the bus. The Microsoft drivers were dated June 2006. The Intel drivers I installed were dated August 2009. I installed...rebooted...ran the DAW with multiple VST's and VSTi's and recorded while playing back multiple tracks....PROBLEM GONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The bus drivers Windows 7 installed were the problem all along!!!!

    1. Install and update all of your PC drivers...especially chipset drivers.

    2. Install the Line 6 drivers that I linked above. Plug in your unit when told to do so by the drivers.

    3. Verify that you get sound by running GearBox or Pod Farm

    4. If you have it there and you don't have it in your DAW than you need to make sure your DAW has the Line 6 ins and outs set up in the options. Don't forget to set your recording channel to monitor audio as well...since most DAW's don't do this by default.

Once you get that far then proceed to.....

    Phase 4...and a little bizarre.

    1. Goto http://www.asio4all.com/ and download the ASIO4ALL drivers.

    2. Run the setup and install them.

    3. Fire up your DAW software or whatever software you want when you play the guitar

    4. Goto you Audio options and select the ASIO4ALL driver. In the submenu you won't see LINE 6 but probably your sound card inputs. Click on the ASIO Advanced or ASIO Configuration option. You should now be in the ASIO4ALL driver control panel. Click the little wrench icon at the lower right to go advanced mode.

    5. In the WDM Device List click the button next to the Line 6 device to enable it. It will turn blue. Disable all other devices that are blue by clicking their

    respective buttons.

    6. I set the "ASIO Buffer Size" to 128 Samples

    7. Set the "Latency Compensation" To 0 on both In and Out.

    8. Uncheck the "Hardware Buffer" box

    9. Set "Kernel Buffers" = 2

    10. Normally the "Always Resample" option remains unchecked.

    11. "Force WDM" will normally remain unchecked as well.

    12. Go BACK into the options and make sure you still have the ASIO4ALL driver still selected. Check the submenus and you should have LINE6 options now. Select the Line 6 stufff.

I  set my audio recording to 48000khz and 24 bit sampling. My response time using Line 6 was averaging 15ms. I also had to set the ASIO Buffers to 256 or 512. Laggy and abyssmal.

With the ASIO4ALL driver I dropped down to an AMAZING 2.6ms.....yes TWO POINT SIX. And now I am running the ASIO buffer size at 128 with NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hopefully this will help someone.

If you need more help just follow up in here and I will check back. Later!

UPDATE: ASIO4ALL ONLY WORKS OUTSIDE OF GEARBOX, POD FARM, ETC... INSIDE OF YOUR DAW. FIRE UP THE DAW AND CONFIGURE ASIO4ALL AND THEN YOU CAN RUN POD FARM, AMPLITUBE, GUITAR RIG OR ANYOTHER VST AND THE PROBLEMS ARE GONE!!

      Well ninrocket,

with your post you are proving that Line 6 got some serious issues with driver's development. After almost a year since Win 7 is available, we just have no functional drivers so we have to try "3rd party solutions". That works better than official ones, as we can see... With official Line6 drivers I never, NEVER had 2.6ms of latency. Think, Line6, Think.

      Re: UX1 dropouts

This has been the most useful post ever from ninrocket so well done!

I was tempted after a few years of using my UX1 to binning as there was NO ANSWER to solve this problem only recommendations on how to make your computer faster. It all for something else but this saved me from it! I never had this problem untill I upgraded to windows 7

I found that the problem about having cuttouts during recording was resolved mainly by updating my driver. Now theres loads of site out there that get you to update them either the complicated way or one which involves paying but I used "SlimDrivers" and the free DriverUpdate and it solved all my issues without paying a penny.
