I was just on sweetwater and they show a few new variax models. I am definately gonna order the 69 with the maple fretboard... The maple just looks good with the 69 body style ,
but the gold top with the soapbars looks nice too. I wish they would offer the 59 with nickel finished pickups that would be the topper there..
You could always buy a couple of the nickel-plated pickup covers if you prefer that look. They're very easy to install.
I didn't know they had that option I guess I never thought of it thanks for the info... Now I am diggin the Idea of a tobacco burst but I still love the maple neck of the 69... Zach Wylde has a model of Les Paul with the maple neck ( It looks awesome).. I wish they had that for the 59.. But I know you can't please everyone.. to be honest I would love like a american deluxe Strat with the Variax guts in it.. ( But I can always dream about it)..

Oh yeah! Me too. I'd love one in Sonic Blue or Seafoam Green. I already have a Strat in Daphne. There are so many cool retro colours to choose from...
You could always get that American Deluxe Strat, mount a GK pickup on it and use it with a RackVax. There's one for sale on eBay right now.

Definitely worth considering when the new RackVax becomes available with the JTV guts. It would be hard to invest serious dollars into the previous generation Variax models when there have been some significant improvements in some of the models.
I'm surprised that Line 6 themselves are not making a product like RackVax so that this is an option for all those who want to play Variax emulations on their favorite GK-equpped guitars. They could get the price down much lower than RackVax, as well, since we wouldn't have to pay the price for the harvested guitar.
Yes, there have been improvements in "some" of the models, but not all. The majority of them have not been changed at all. The RackVax is still a very viable option for those who want to turn their favorite guitar into 28 other great instruments -- for much less than the cost of a JTV.

There actually have been many functional changes that are IMHO more important than the model updates. The main one being the added processing power in the JTV allows for alt tunings and virtual capo with the 12 strings. Also the ability to use alt tunings right up front without messing with Workbench and taking a custom tone slot would make using the JTV electronics in something like a RackVax worth doing.
nice... also of note... the new 69's are SSS (new gold, black, or tritone)
the new 59 with p90's is black or goldtop
I commend Line 6 for making some new models available, but sheesh, you'd think they could have come up with something a little prettier. I know I will probably get a flame or two by those who think these new guitars look fantastic, but to my tastes they don't. They are very unappealing to me, and I collect and own quite a few guitars.
In the custom models of the American-made JTV-69s there are some lovely colour combinations. I don't know why Line 6 can't pick a few of those nice combinations to use for their standard Korean models. There are so many alternate combos that would be a tonne more pleasing than the ones available. I would think that that could do nothing but to increase the appeal of the guitars and multiply the sales. But I know I don't speak for everyone.
Thanks for the links.
personally I'd love to see the white with the turtoise shell guard in an SSS configuration ![]()
but I think the new ones are a bit "safe" meaning not really ugly... but not super inspiring either...
having said that... i might consider picking up a gold 69.
Totally agree with you Zeddd. And it appears that you can get the maple neck on any color of JTV-69 you want, as long as it's black.
Also, DOTS? Is that all we're ever going to see from Line 6 for neck inlays from now on, DOTS? I HATE dots! The old 700s had halfway-pleasing rounded rectangles, and a very cool abalone V at the 12th fret. The old acoustic 700 had "snowflake" inlays. But now, 8 years later, all we get are dots. Yuccckkkk . . .
Well I Ordered the Black 69 with the maple neck, they had no interest for 18 months its kinda hard not too buy now... I cant wait for it to come hopefully I pre ordered it soon enuf to get it at the end of month...
nice! congrats... got my eye on one of the new gold 69's... but might not move too fast on it... some other things taking priority at the moment.
yeah I know the Drill I have been eyeing the Jtv series since they came out but other prioritys. Also I Pay my self money when I practice and learn new songs so that I am not one of those guys with 10 grand worth of gear but can't play nothing.. And so far it has worked wonders I am now learning song number 70 and 71.. My goal is 100 then I will start writing my own stuff..
Have Line 6 learned anything.
Click the link and wait for the guitars to start cycling through the various finishes and when it gets to the black one, move your mouse cursor over the picture to stop the images from their rotation.
Have a look at the bottom E string (the thick one) nearest the neck pickup. I would say that is unplayable. Why oh why would a mutli million $ company put that sort of image on their website.
Bet you black guitar picture and this post have been removed by the morning.
markcockerill wrote:

Not sure what you mean. What makes it unplayable? Has the picture already been updated?
So JTV-69S is the name given to the US Custom models of the JTV-69? I would buy one of those white ones with the lime green pick guards in an instant if I could get it for the price of a regular Korean-made JTV model.
Sorry Zedd. I'll explain a little clearer.
Click the link again and look at the area at the last fret (next to the neck pickup) of each each picture in turn as they go through the various colours and keep your eyes fixed on the string distance to the edges of the neck on each guitar. The bottom E string is aligned to the edge of the neck on the black one. The neck is not aligned straight with the strings. If the neck bolts are loosened to fix this, then there will undoubtedly be a fair gap to store your plectrums.
Aha. I getcha. It is definitely off. I wonder what percentage of guitars are actually delivered like that.
I'd still like to know what the "S" in JTV-69S stands for. Those images are in the colours of some of the US custom models, but I couldn't see that detail specified on the page.
Since the new JTV-59 in gold is actually called a JTV-59P, I wonder if these JTV-69S guitars are actually new colour schemes available for the Korean models? That would be awesome!
The "S" stands for a single coil pickup in the bridge rather than the Humbucker.
Another Aha. Thanks. I'm surprised that is not more clear on the product page. I'm even more surprised that the difference didn't jump out at me. Of course the the JTV-69S guitars are missing the humbucker and have the 3 single coils. Not only do I like that look better, but it would seem then that these new colour models are for the standard version of these guitars. That is excellent. I am thrilled with this and will definitely be getting the white/green model.
And the "P" in JTV-59P is for the P-90s.
Great development.
I'm glad they're putting out these new versions. This development tells me they're not shelving the product line. It's been a bumpy road. I'm expecting they've been learning from the difficulties of the past couple of years and they're starting to think creatively again, rather than having to hunker down and react only to problems.
One thing L6 should really push is to come out with some left-handed versions. Seems like a substantial market would be tapped if they would go that direction, and this latest development should lead towards that now, sooner than later. There have been many requests for that since day one. I'm a leftie who plays right handed, so I know what they're talking about (in other issues). It's a "why not?" issue. I'm thinking they've got their manfacturing "sea-legs" under them by now.
I got my TSB 59 in May of 2011 after waiting on the order since October 2010. When I got it, it had the replaced switch from the initial batch, but the replacement switches had soldering problems from the replacemets, and I sent it back for servicing -- they took care of it in a very timely manner. Later that summer, mine developed a piezo problem, where one string would quit on hot humid days (played a lot of outdoor festivals). I worked with L6 and they sent me a replacement bridge. I installed it, and it was great in this last summer's hot humid festival season.
Even though I've been through some bumps in the road, I still love this guitar, and it is now VERY dependable. I've noticed quite a few times, somebody eyeing the 59, trying to figure out how I got so many sounds & tunings out of it. Had to be guitar players -- most people don't know what goes on to get a certain sound... I have a backup Epiphone LP guitar on the stand for my gigs, that only gets used if I break a string, which has not happened so far. If it does, I will have certain songs I just would not be able to play & would have to skip in the set list....
This newest batch of JTV's has got me eyeing the new 69's with the 3 single coils (SSS). I was never a "super-strat" fan (SSH). I've been a long-time strat owner, but had kind of switched over to LP style (HH) in the last 5 or 6 years. I would like to see the maple fret board offered in the other colors, so won't be jumping for a bit. Going to watch the developments for a while, see if that is a one-off, but there is really no reason for it to be... The gold 69 with a maple fretboard would be sweet...
Some may be looking at this as a "no big deal", "so what" development, but I see it as a positive step forward again. I do not want to have this be a short-lived dead-end product line. We haven't heard too much about the Gibson Robo guitar or the next-generation Firebird, whatever it was called, for a while...
My 2 cents...
Dave
Its 5:30pm now and its still there! I see what you mean. What a dreadful setup. I love my 59 but the finish on it is certainly no 10, it looks like they rubbed trough all the good looking grain until they came to something flat and uniteresting before coating it in clear laquer. I have to say that the quality control is poor. There have been far too many problems reported by so many people for far too long. And this is by a company whose customer all want it to do well. I sometimes think that we are too longsuffering.
What are you fellows talking about? What's wrong with the picture?
Thanks for pointing that out after I ordered it... LOL Hopefully mine comes set up right.. I did get a email from sweetwater and they said I should get it around oct 5 .. Man I can't wait...
Waiting to see what you think, katiekerry,
To current JTV owners:
I also am interested in the JTV 69S (Black with maple fretboard).Looks sweet.
Although I am concerned as I was in a Guitar Center a couple of weeks ago and tried out
a JTV 69. My views were the neck was a little different (wide) but had a cheap feel to it.
Also the guy working there (car sales mentality) charged a dead battery for 10 minutes so
I could try out the axe. I thought the sound was a little thin ,could this have been the battery?
I was playing thru a DT50 1x12. The mag pickups sounded great though.
I currently own the HD500 and DT50 (head and 4x12 cab) and have been searching the forum
for JTV users opinions on this guitar. Also is this guitar, like shopping for another guitar where
you shouldn't buy without actually trying the actual guitar you want to purchase?(As opposed to
buying on-line). There have been some issues with the string slip off, and others that don't sound
to appealing for a $1400 instrument.
Did I have a first time bad experience or is guitar really worth it?
Anyway, just my thoughts.
Love the HD500 and DT50 with my regular guitars (PRS,Les Paul, Tele)
But looking to "Dream Up Big Sounds" with the Dream Rig

My experience with GC is mixed. The one near me has never carried the JTV's. I took a leap of faith and ordered my JTV-59 online from Sweetwater in Oct 2010 -- waited & waited (& waited) and got it in May 2011. It had switch problems (see my post above) and later that summer piezo problems (also see above), but since they fixed the problems, the guitar has been very reliable. I put it up to the roll out of a new product from a new factory. I'm thinking now they've learned from their problems and are finally at the point of thinking creatively again, which is why I'm starting to get interested in the 69 sss's.
I would love to find one in a store I could put my hands on before I plunk down the $$$, but with the spotty coverage at the GC's I've seen in my area, it's not too likely. Next week, I am going to be in an area that the L6 locator says they do have some(?) in stock. The likelihood that they have one, and it's the configuration and color, etc, I specifically want is low. The store is not a GC, by the way. Even if they do have a 69 at that store, it's not likely to be the one I want specifically, so in all probability I will end up getting it online, unless what I see totally scares me off probably at Sweetwater. They seem to have more available in all the different flavors (if not in stock, at least rolling through inventory). I will prepare myself and expect some kind of wait, but doubt it will be as bad as the initial rollout, because they had some very real issues pop up during the initial product run, that had to shut it down and fix enmasse...
GC's are more likely to physically have 'em in major metro areas than in smaller markets where I am. But that is not always true, because I just read a post over at the JTV Support Forum where a guy was looking to find one in the San Francisco Bay area. The GC he went acted like they didn't know what he was talking about. I mean that's in Line 6's back yard.... They're typically the Best Buy of the instrument scene. "Don't have it, but we can order it for ya" -- Duh -- so can I... They do have a lot of selection, but it's pretty mainstream, which this guitar is not. Would like to see it go that direction, but it's not there yet...
The thing that would wave me off will not likely be the modeling, but the physical guitar and pickups -- feel in the hands, etc. I know what to expect with the modeling sounds. I love the 59's set neck and 2 humbuckers, and I use the mags a ton, while I use the models for special sounds and tunings. Up until about 7 years ago, I'd been a life long Fender guy, so the LP style was a departure for me, but I do love it. The strat-style with SSS is what I've used for a long time prior to my first Variax 300 in 2005. I want to try one before buying, but it probably won't be "the one" I end up with,. If I can't try one, I will probably swallow hard and get one sight unseen on line. If I really hate it, send it back, get my $$$ back and chalk it up to experience.
Dave
davudb7170,
Thank for the reply of your experience.
I would agree that alot of the major bugs may be worked out or Line 6 is working on continuous improvement.
Just throwing out an opinion here:
It still amazes me that the public has to do some of the "d-bugging" for these companys, and it doesn't deter us from buying
there products. I just want a product that is a "good value" to me. And for now I am waiting to learn more on when the guitar is
up to my standards for me to spend my hard earned cash.
I am going to do some more research as far as, going to play the guitar, where I am at within an hour I can probalbly find one ,
but as for the JTV69S. It may be awhile before any stores get them.
I would be courious as the maple fingerboard if its going to have a different feel vs the rosewood fingerboard.
Also with your current 59, when the battery starts to go dead, Does the modeling get weak sounding?
Regards,
BMoe
BMoe --
As far as debugging it goes, yes, the initial roll out was not how I wanted it to go. I did immediately see that the quality of the physical build was head & shoulders above my previous Variax 300 I bought in 2005, and had no real problems with it. I just got tired of the general low grade build of the lowest cost guitar in the line.
I am an engineer by profession and knew that things can be worked out, so I stuck with it. That decision is for everyone to make for their own situation. I saw the potential and decided not to let what I saw as problems throw me.
I have 2 Fender guitars with maple fretboards and they do feel, play, and sound different than rosewood. If you can go to a store and pick out a strat with maple and one with rosewood.
On the battery -- I play mine through the VDI cable that powers the guitar from the HD500 pedal, so I've never had the situation of it going dead on me. I keep the battery charged up in my case, and have had to use it once for a gig, when I buggered up my VDI cable. I played the whole gig with out a hitch on the battery, but I couldn't switch it from my HD500... I can't honestly say what it sounds like with the battery going dead.
Dave
Can't switch it from the HD500??? I thought that one of the features hhttp://line6.com/jtv-69/seehear
In your opinion, what did you think of the modeling?
Anywho, this guitar does interest me for all the modeling. as I do like electric and acoustic guitar tones
I'll have to do another taste test. as first impressions shouldn't apply.
Thanks again for your thoughts.
BMoe
To be able to switch the JTV models from the HD500 pedal, you need to be hooked up between the JTV & HD500 with a VDI (Variax Digital Inteface) cable . It has 2-way communication between the guitar and the pedal -- guitar to pedal is the guitar signal, pedal to guitar is power and switching, all in the one special VDI cable. When I buggered my VDI cable and had to run on the battery, I was just using a regular giutar 1/4" to 1/4" cable into the guitar input, so the HD500 could not power or control the JTV, so I had to manually switch the guitar on patches I usually have the HD500 switch the JTV into different models. I oredered a new VDI cable and was back in business as usual.
Of the HD Pods, only the HD500 and Pro have a VDI input that will power and control the JTV or other Variax's. I also have the Variax 300, and that can use the VDI as well.
As far as the model sounds go, I think everybody will develop their own favorites, they are very good. I gravitate to the Fender strat & tele and Gibson LP & Specials, though I found one patch that uses the "Phd" amp (modeled on the Dr. Z) that was set up with an semi-solid 335 that I also use -- real bluesy. I also found the acoustics sound great if you have a good acoustic patch for them. I found one on Line 6's Custom Tone pages called "JTV Acoustic Dre" that really brought the acoustics to life for me, and I use it out live. You can also tweek the models using the Variax Work Bench software (download) -- use different pickups, body styles, etc, etc... I am still exploring the possibilities of both the HD500 Edit and Variax Work Bench software packages. I also make heavy use of the JTV-59's magnetic pickups -- probably a lot more than half the time...
User meambobbo has written a great guide to using the HD500 settings, that has helped a LOT of folks here.
Dave
Thanks for the info, appreciate it.
Yup, I have used meanbobbo's guide for the HD500, great guide.
Now just gotta get me some axe modeling!!!
Thanks again
BMoe
Well emailed Sweetwater cause it was past the date they said they would ship.. Now they say Line 6 isn't shipping them until 11/7.... So most likely its a christmas present to my self... II asked the wife if she would buy it for me she said I wasn't worth it.. WOW now thats true love....
It's probably worth the wait. I was going to order a new one, but Sweetwater said it would be another month so, I ordered a JTV-69 black. It now needs to be shipped back for repairs after two days. The model selector knob has the same old problem where it won't push down ( I fixed that with tissue paper). The pickup switch has a loose connection or short and will quit working sometimes. I have to wiggle the switch or push down on the pickguard to get it to work. Other wise it's a nice guitar!
Yeah I ordered the 69s I am hoping they have worked some of the older design bugs. I saw they had isues with the wire mounts on older tremelo systems, but they have fiixed that. hopefully they have adressed other issues with this refresh...
I looked and the wire mounts are the old way on mine, but It seems to work fine. Sweetwater said my guitar was stocked this Summer so you would think it would have had these fixes. On a positive note...I played it ( with my HD500/DT50) for about 20 minutes this morning and used 4 different guitars and three different amps. It sounds fantastic and is quite a technical achievement. I hooked it up through my interface and recorded a bit of the acoustics in Sonar X2 and they are very good. If only they could get their quality control issues fixed.
katie, clint, thanks for sharing your experiences.
Although I am a little leary of purchasing, for all the problems that happen when you drop cash for this guitar.
Sweetwater has a 55 point evalutation that sounds like it misses some major points.
I always thought a person should try out a guitar before buying because they could differ, even when it's the same
model guitar. This happen when I purchased a PRS and tried out 3 in the store and the only physical difference was
the color. They all played different.
But with this Variax, I did try one at GC, and was not impressed, as I stated in a previous post.
Another option, I just found was, a Schmitt Music store would order one for me and If I didn't like it
they would put it on the rack, and I wouldn't be out any thing, this would be a wait and try method.
The JTV-69 black with maple fretboard looks sharp to me, but I don't want to spend the cash and
have to send it back for the switch, neck etc, all the problems this guitar has had.
Just venting,
BMoe
I've been a Strat guy for life, and I hear ya. I've never played two that felt the same. I personally don't blame you a bit for not buying a JTV. The quality control issue on a $1400 guitar is really pathetic. I waited two years to avoid the very problems I'm now dealing with...That said, I really look forward to having it fixed and getting it back. I like the neck and feel of it, and I'm capable of making adjustments If I decide to change something. I bought it for a studio tool and I think it will be nice to have in the tool box. My 1954 anniversary Stratocaster will always be my main guitar.
Actually, unless you're talking about the 59, it's a $1,200, not a $1,400 guitar. And if you pay more than $1,100 for it--well, let's just say you're paying more than you need to if you know the right levers to pull.
I figure the modeling is worth about $4-500. Which makes it about a $6-700 guitar. I have two of them, and both of them are roughly comparable in fit and finish to most any other $1,200 guitar I've played WITHOUT the $4-500 worth of modeling. So I feel like I got a screaming deal. YMMV.
Just my $0.02.
BMoe, do you have a Guitar Center in your area? They don't carry them in-store typically, but you can order and have it delivered to your local store. Take it out and play it before leaving. If you don't love it, return it right there on the spot. No muss, no fuss. They get a bum rap, but most of the people I deal with there are top notch. If your salesperson isn't, just talk to the manager. On the whole, they are great and almost always willing to go the extra mile. It's cool to trash GC (I've done it) but they're fine.
I get that some people on this forum have had issues, but I'm two for two and would do it again if I could possibly justify a third. (bummer) There are many others like me. Call us the silent (vast) majority.
I paid $1199 and expect a $150 mail in rebate. I bought mine from Sweetwater who has a two year warranty. I'm satisfied with my purchase...I'm shipping it today to get the switch fixed and hopefully all will be well. The usual price is $1399 which was the basis of my $1400 comment, but whatever.
I am curious about getting repairs done to the JTVs. When you call Line 6 and they determine that it is a warranty issue, do they send you a shipping label and pay the costs? Also, do they have a limit on how many times they will bring it in for warranty work. Also, what is the normal turn around time?
I have had probably 25+ guitars, and I only had ONE that I ever had to send in for warranty work - and that was a first run carbon fiber guitar that just needed to have cosmetic touch ups. I know it has been said before many times, but I think these quality issues have the potential to kill a great product. I can not understand why the production problems were not intensely investigated right at the start and fixed (or change factories). Such a shame that such a breakthrough product is not supported by good management IMHO.
I have only heard great things about Line 6 service. I'm using Sweetwater because, I asked if I should send it to them or Line 6, and they said them. I'm on a few forums and have read that Line 6 pays for shipping on warranty work. Maybe someone else will chime in.
I've gone through my retailer for any issues I've had. I know Sweetwater gets a lotta lovin around here, but I like being able to walk the thing into a shop if I need something fixed. I never paid for shipping.
@clintmartin: Odd as the only prices I can find on Sweetwater are 1199 for the 69 and 1299 for the 59. May want to talk to them if you paid more. But, good news on the $150 rebate!
If you'll look at my post, $1199 is what I paid. The JTV's are $200 off right now. With rebate it will be $1049. It's a good deal. I'm not sure where we're saying anything different?
Since I have yet to receive my JTV-69s, I emailed Sweetwater to see if they will charge me the current price since they now say it won't be sent till 11-7-12 do to line6 shipping delays.. they should I don't see any reason why they wouldn't honor their current prices for something I ordered a month ago and still won't get for a month...
thanks for the info for the price drop.....
Yeah since they had the price drop on the amp also I decided to go with the dream rig system . Line6 also has a 500 mail rebate too so what the hell you only live once...
Sweet! My JTV-69 completes my Dream rig too.

I hope you won't be disappointed with the size, the second time around. If it were me I would wait until the NAMM in January to find out if there is going to be a more desirable version of the pod soon to be released.
It's great technology that needs to be in a much smaller box. I think all the foot switches should be an add-on piece of accessory hardware that only needs to be purchased by those who want a more flexible unit for stage work. Then the cost of the actually pod could be reduced and it would be more useful, as all the studio people could easily add it to their setups. Much more sensible, in my opinion. That would also allow the guitarist to leave the heavier component with the band's gear, and still go home with the smaller brains of the unit to continue working in the studio.
And while I'm painting my wishes, I would rather have a small rectangular unit rather than a bean-shaped one. Same size but a less distinctive shape.
Well a large part of it is that I will be using it in a different scenario. I am hoping that changes my perspective of the size. For starters I will be using a regular amp situation where ever since the first kidney bean pod came out I have not used a amp. I have run everthing through my CPU system and monitered through head phones. Also I am starting from scratch in so many ways new guitar new effects system and now using the DT25 combo instead of Headphones. I can't use my old patch library like Ihave coverted in the past ( each generation of POD equipment I have used..) I was disapointed the last time I tried the HD500 because there were no accoustic amp models but now with the Variax I can get convincing accoustic sounds with out them.. But yes I do wish they had a smaller footprint option for the variax input than just the HD500 or the HDpro.. Sometimes I think its easier for me to accept large changes than little ones I am funny that way..
Stay in the mix and in the know.
