When will there be a gig bag for the hd500

No telling... they haven't announced one. But, there are several that will work. There's a Gator, I'm using a Body Glove, some claim that the Pod XT bag will work(some say it's too small). Do a forum search and you'll find the different models.
I think the XT is too small for the HD500, the X3 bag however fits rather nicely.
Thats what I have.
My Gator Bag I used for my X3 Live works perfectly with my HD 500. I even put my power supply and cords and Mission engineering Exp Pedal in the zippered pouch.

I have the Line 6 Pod XT Live Gigbag (98-030-0011) and the Line 6 Pod X3 Live Gigbag (98-030-0012). I can't even cram the Pod HD500 into either of them however hard I try, they're a full few inches too short around the perimeter.
I can only think the people who find them a perfect fit are using bags that have undergone a few years of stretching. Either that or they're different sized bags; it's very difficult to tell when they aren't clearly labelled with their names or numbers.
Or perhaps there's something lacking in quality control. My X3 bag does seem weirdly misshapen; it's not very rectangular.

+1 on the Gator GK2110. I rang Andertons and asked nicely if they'd try an HD500 in one for me before I bought it, which they did. It's a nice snug fit so nothing is rattling around, and there's plenty of room in the side pouch for mains adaptor, guitar leads, XLRs, etc. I paid about 25 quid for mine.
I have my HD500 in my old XTLive bag and it works ok, but is snug. I tried it in my X3Live bag, and it did not work at all -- plus I still keep my X3L in the car at gigs as a backup to my HD500. The X3L bag was needed because the X3L was wider (side to side), and less deep (front to back) than my XTL. I remember being disappointed that I had to buy a new bag when I moved from my XTL to my X3L -- was hoping they would have kept the same form factor. When I bought the HD500, I experimented with the two bags, and found the XTL bag to fit the HD500. I think you are right though that having hauled my XTL around for about 4 years probably did stretch it out enough to make it useable with the HD500 - closer to thre XTL size than the X3L, but not exact. I was bracing for having to find a new bag once again when I bought the HD500, but lucked out not to have to. My XTL got fried (power jack issue), so was sitting dead in its case anyway. My X3L is snug in its fit with its own bag, too.

I have a X3 Live bag and my HD400 was a perfect fit.
The HD500 however, is just a little too big.
I can get 3 corners in and zip it up with about 1cm of the 4th corner sticking through the zip.
I'm hoping with a bit of stretching it will eventually fit in.......
Failing that, I might try and find someone good at sewing to put another 15mm of material in :-)
This is the bag I got for my HD500 and it fits great!
World Tour Side Impact Gig Bag (#15) $49.95
Two other things I like about it is that it's heavier duty than the 'Line 6 XT Live' bag and the attached pocket runs the length of the bag. The "XT Live" bag has a smaller pocket.
I have the official "Line 6" (with logo) bag for the "POD XT Live" and although it fits the XT like a glove there is no way the HD500 will fit in it. I don't believe it can stretch either... I've had mine on the road (100+gigs) and taking to practices for 6+ years and it's still the same size! Perhaps others who profess the HD500 does fit, actually have a Gator, World Tour or other brand of bag that was a bit over-sized?
If you're not set on a gig bag, I highly recommend a case sold on eBay by tarcaseco. I have one and its awesome, holds the board on place without Velcro or zip ties. Check out the pics here,
