HD500 Power Supply Issues with EffectsSnake

I'm sure the fact the the power supply with the HD500 DC side cable being too short has been beat to death. I am in full agreement!
I had the same issues with the XT and X3L. My solution was pretty simple. I built an EffectsSnake.
It Consists of off the shelf 20' cables in braided sleeving. http://www.techflex.com/prod_PET.asp Tons of other vendors on the net.
3 XLR mic cables
3 1/4" Guitar cables
1 16ga zip cord with male and female DC connectors. For effects power.
It allows me to run the stereo balanced and unbalanced outs, Guitar and Mic Inputs, and power to the POD back to my Amp Rack and FOH board.
I have using this setup with the X3L for 3 years. It has worked flawlessly and is dead quiet. Having to only run 1 cable between Pod and Rack (or Amp) really reduces setup time.
( Let me know if anyone would like the parts list)
Enter the POD HD500. I swapped to the HD power supply in the rack, plugged everything in and Zero... HD500 won't power up.
I tested the voltage at the end of extension cable... It's 9v DC. The HD500 is a pretty high current power supply @ 3 AMPS.So, I tested the current load while powering up the HD. It pegs 3 Amps and then drops to a nominal .9 Amps. AhhHaa. Not enough current to initalize the HD. Hookup my Bench Power supply, set the Voltage to 9v and feed it 4.5 Amps through the snake.
HD still will not power up.
Is anyone running a similar setup?
Does Line6 Engineering want to jump in here ??
Any ideas ? Should I drive it with Higher Voltage to compensate for the volage drop over 16ga 20' cable?
Running a 110v AC extension cord or bundling one in the snake to the Front of Stage is not an option !
The HD500 Rocks and the tones are a noticably better than the X3L.
Sorry for the long diatribe.
Thanks in Advance for your comments !
Cheers,
Matt
No solution for you, but I am considering buying an HD 500 and have not only the concern of the power supply, but all the other cable runs...
Here's my thread I created last night: http://line6.com/support/thread/88753

Here is the gist of it:
...This would be for a medium size stage (15' max between me and my rig) - I dunno what I'd do on a bigger stage?
Cable runs back and forth:
- The HD500 needs power (YOUR QUESTION) Power Cable =1
- Wireless unit in my rack Only thing I can think of is run a 20' cable from the out of the wireless to the IN on the HD500. 20' Cable #1
- HD500 Send to Return of my rack 20' Cable #2
- Send from my rack to Return of HD500 20' Cable #3
- 1/4" HD500 Right out to power amp Right 20' Cable #4
- 1/4" HD500 Left out to power amp Left 20' Cable #5
Then there's the control cable... 7 cables total!! I can image quite a bit of signal loss over those length runs.
I'd run the XLR outs (L and R) straight to the board, but I'm not worried about those cause they'll go to the snake
Your idea of building a snake is a great one, but I'm really surprised that running the power cable along with signal cables doesn't create any sort of buzz? Have you come up with a solution since your post in May?
I'm thinking I have one or two options, both of which I don't like. 1) move a stripped down version of my rack next o the pedalboard, but that would be SOOO stupid looking. 2) forget about the rest of my rack and just use the HD500. The idea behind getting an HD500 in the first place was to avoid dragging around S***tons of gear.
Still got the issue of the wireless though, do you use one and how do you deal with that cable run?
Stay in the mix and in the know.
