Your description is very clear. Since you have tested different VDI cables, and reinstalled the firmware of both devices, I suspect one or the other device is experiencing a hardware fault. If that's the case, since both devices are new you are likely covered under warranty. I would open a support ticket to deal directly with Line 6 on this.

Thanks, Silverhead, I think I'll do that . . . just wanted to check to see if there was something I am missing or if it is a known big or what.
