FBV Shortboard MKII RJ-45 Cable Not Recgonized in Computer/Laptop

Hi there, I purchased the FBV shortboard MKII yesterday and I have been playing it in a Spider IV 150 model having a blast with all the presets and capabilities that it has. Today I decided that I would attempt to download the upgrades for the shortboard and ran into a rather large snag. I plugged the RJ-45 Cable from the shortboard into my laptop and nothing. My laptop does not recognize the shortboard at all, no beep and/or icon
detected. As a result of this I decided to try to be creative and I attempted to download the line 6 monkey to see if it would make a difference, but of course monkey 6 won't complete installation as it states please select the line 6 device you would like to configure and the fbv shortboard mkii is not an option to select as it has not been detected on my laptop.
I am running a windows 7 operating system with a toshiba l500-00f laptop and have wireless internet at my residence (I did not know if the wireless makes a difference, but I thought maybe as the RJ-45 Cable is an ethenet connection - ps I am not computer savvy). I do know the problem is not the RJ-45 cable as it works fine in the amp itself. Does anyone know what I need to do for my laptop to recgonize the cable itself.
Thank you for any and all feedback.

I should also mention that I downloaded the Spider IV Edit in the meantime as well, but it too says no line 6 device connected. Thank again for any and all help with this.

You need to use a standard USB cable (square keyed connector on the end that goes to the Shortboard) to connect to a computer. The RJ45 is for connection of the controller pedal to your amp. Line 6 should provide a USB cable for this, but they don't.
You can access the manual here: http://line6.com/support/manuals/fbvsmkii which gives all the details on connecting, updating and calibrating our controller.
I believe I might have a USB cable around the house somewhere
. I guess I was of the understanding that the RJ45 connected to the amp and/or computer as well, but since my computer won't recgonize the RJ45 cable I think USB is my only option. Thank you for the reply and you're definately right Line 6 should provide a USB Cable for the amount of $ we spend to purchase their products. Thanks again!
