Variax 700 crackling/banging noise

My Variax 700 electric has developed a problem where by the guitar sound is drowned out by a crackling and banging noise. I guess it sounds similar to a lead that has got air in it.

It had the same problem in 2004, 2 weeks after I bought it, of course back then, it was straight back to the shop who sent it to Line 6 (UK). Now though, well out of warranty I don't know what to do. The noise is there regardless of wether I use batteries or mains (I've tried batteries in & out when using mains), several leads, different amps etc.

I've reflashed it several times with Monkey but to no avail.

I had been hoping to sell it and put it towards a Tyler Variax but it seems I've either got to get it to Line 6 to repair or sell as faulty unless anyone can shed any light?

    Hi

     

    It's difficult to guess what the source of the problem actually is remotely.  Personally in your position, I think I would give Line 6 UK tech support a call and discuss your options with them as soon as you are able to do so using the number you will find under the Contact Us link at the bottom of this page.  You will find the support team very helpful I'm sure.

      Thanks Nick for the response, I think that's what I will do.

      I Rolled back the Firmware on the Variax to 3.05 which actually seemed to work for one night, however next time I plugged in, it started making the crackling noise again.

      Oh, and thanks Line 6 for assuming the question is answered but not bothering to shed any light on the problem, really helpful....

    Hi,

       

      This appears to be a physical problem with the Variax and there is no way of knowing exactly what the issue is without having an authorized service center take a look at it.

      I've had the same crackling using both my Variax 600 and my JTV-69 through the POD X3 live with the digital connection. Is there an analog signal path on the cable depite getting power and sending/recieving digital patch information over the digital cable? I'm thinking the digital connection (10-base T) technology is just not up to professional reliability, because my band has had it with my **** ******* up on the gigs!
