Variax change presets by itself.

Hi.

I use my Variax300 with the digital cable connected to my HD500, I control the presets on the POD and the Variax together from the POD itself (POD control over the Variax is enabled).

The other guitarist in my band runs his Variax600 together with the HD500 the same way as I exactly (the POD controls the Variax preset changing).

Both of us suffer from the same problem, presets on the Variax change often to the actual switch and knob position by itself.

I'll explain: let's assume I'm now In position 1 on LESTER, then I switch to a different preset in the POD which change the preset in the Variax to LESTER position 4 (different tuning for example) after a while, the variax go back (independently) to LESTER position 1 (where the knob and switch are).

The only way to "fix" that is to repress the relevant preset in the POD and recall the same preset on the POD and the right preset on the Variax so the Variax will be in the right preset again.

Anyone ?

Thanks.

I'm guessing here, but is it possible that at some point during that sequence you are switching to a preset where the HD500 does not force a Variax model change? In that case perhaps it reverts to the currently selected Variax model, according to the physical knob/switch positions?

        Hmmmmmm.... that's curious.

Have you resinstalling or updating the firmware on both your HD500 and your Variax? It might be a firmware issue on either device.

It might also be an issue with the knobs and/or switches on your Variax. If any of them are dirty and hence not making a clean solid connection with the Variax internals, it's possible that the electronics is detecting a phantom movement of a knob/switch. In that case, of course, the Variax will immediatley override the HD model setting and will begin to use the model indicated by the physical knob/switch positions. As you know, that happens immediately when you do physically move, say, the pickup switch selector. I don't know if it happens with the Tone and Volume knobs. I doubt it, but maybe worth testing. Definitely worth checking your Model Selector knob and your Pickup Selector switch. I would try just moving them slightly manually, without actually changing the model selection/position, to see if you can trigger a phantom model change.

I have the same issue with my Variax 600, connected via digital cable to my XT Live. Anyone found a solution to this?

Re: Variax change presets by itself.

    Hi

I have recently had a similar (not exact) problem, in that my models were changing by themselves and unwanted.

Same sort of set up Pod XT Live controlling the Variax models via the VDI (My Variax is a 700)

Touch wood (as they say) mine appears to be fixed (Fingers Crossed)

I removed  the jack assembly completely (It just unplugs from 3 or 4 connectors)

I cleaned the outside contacts only (that could have been done whilst still in the guitar)

Then I put it all back together and Hey Presto ......... So far and hopefully permanantly it has not gone wrong since

    Give it a try

    Cheers, Mark
