sdcard recording stops when wav file exceeds 2GB - firmware solution ???

Hi
At our last gig we wanted to record our complete show on the sdcard (64GB) in the SS.
We used the option to record the channels 1-18 including the complete main mix.
At the end of our show I noticed that the recording was stopped, before we ended our show.
The next day I examined the recorded files and I saw that the main mix file (biggest stereo wav format) has a size of 2GByte.
That means, if the one of the recorded file exceeds the 2GB FAT32 limit of the sdcard, the recording stops.
I could imagine several solutions for this problem:
1. SS uses a filesystem which has no 2GB limit.
2. SS should not stop recording. If one wav file is getting bigger than 2GB during recording, the SS should close the first wav file
and then proceed with a second wav file and so on.
These recording mechanism is used by video cameras, which also record on a sdcard with fat32
Is it possible to include this mechanism in a future firmware update ???
Is it possible that your sd card is actually full, because there are many files still in the unemptied trash? Try emptying the trash on your sd card to make sure its full capacity is available for the ss to use.
not really, he rightfully pointed out that a single file cannot exceed 2GB using fat32 file system.
this file system is common, because i think it's an open license and compatible among all OS's
Thanks for clarifying, zap. My mistake.
Ruben40 - apologies for any confusion.
So the 2g limit is imposed by FAT 32. You should note that you will get more time inside the 2G if you do not record the LR output. This is because the LR out will fill up the file more quickly as it is a stereo file while the individual tracks are not.
Thank you dboomer for your advice.
But what's about spanning the wav files ?
That means if the limits of 2GB is reached for a recording file, the recordings is continued with a new second wav file and so on.
With sdcard recording camcorders it is the state of the art to use spanning, when the video file is getting bigger than the FAT32 file limits during recording.
If it's not possible to realize spanning in a future firmware update ,please use 2 mono files for the LR-Output and not a stereo file.
This would give us double recording time.
Thanks
