Can someone send me a link to the Grover tuners that fit the stock JTV-59 variax slots? I don't and won't drill, so I need the exact set? Or exact from another company with great tuners. The stock on the Korean jtv are ....uh ya know! BAD!
Jason, I'm trying to find out the same thing.
My 59 is on the way, and I've got a spare set of grover 406c mini locking rotomatics...
They look like they will fit, but I wont know until I get the guitar (Monday).
let me know if they fit. I love the variax! I own 4 Gibson les Paul's of the higher end, and I play my variax more now! the tuning is the only issue.
Send pics after install if able...
Does the JTV-59 use a different type of tuning machine from the 69? I'm not crazy about the 69 neck, but the tuners seem fine.
The bridge is different on the 59. From what I have seen, the strings can be a pain to keep in the bridge when putting them on. Hopefully, not having to keep slack to wind will help that.
I also change strings often, and the locking tuners just makes that process much less of a chore...
I agree. I've never had locking tuners, but string change would be much easier with the grover 406c's. Let me know if they fit stock.
Don't know about Grovers, but these Shallers work perfectly for me.
These are direct replacements right down to the screw holes: http://www.allparts.com/TK-0976-010-Schaller-3X3-Chrome-Locking-Tuners_p_3768.html
Locking tuners are a must on JTV's in my opinion. Makes strings changes SO much easier with the JTV bridge. BTW - I bought mine on eBay and saved $25+
I'm going to put my grovers on the 59 this weekend. Any idea if that will void my warranty?
I prefer the locking rotomatics as opposed to the roto-grip ones because you dont have to turn the wheel on the back.
They use a cam that locks on the string automatically as you tune up to pitch.
I really can't imagine that voiding the warranty.
I can confirm the Grover 406c locking rotomatics are drop in replacements.
Seems like the post holes are slightly larger than the posts of the grovers, but if you tighten them down enough they dont move around.
Stay in the mix and in the know.
