Stop boxes in front of DT 50 1x12 combo

I am a DT 50 and HD 500 owner. With the new firmware update for the amp I am thinking about running my set up a bit differently. I am messing with the HD unit as a midi controler as well as effects no pre-amps or amp models. I am wondering how the DT responds to overdrive units ie: tube driver, tube screamer in front of the amp. Has any one done this at all?
The DTs work like any other amp with stomp boxes in front of it. I have a POD HD 500 and I am using a separate Tube Screamer and a 535Q Wah in front of one or both. Since I always put those in every patch, I have them available all the time and free up the DSP in the POD for more delays and pitch shifting.
Here's my problem..... the POD works as a midi controler but only for individual foot switches. I have not been able to make the POD change amps on the DT when you change a preset on the POD. So for example: you would store a whole combiniation of fx and maybe use the POD HD in 4 cable mode with no amp selected so you want each preset on the POD to change the amp setting on the DT. It doesn't work, however. Or at least, I could not get it to work. The L6 link makes midi changes on the DT but I can only assign individual switches on the POD to send midi messages or even multiple messages.
Anyone have a solution for this?
Sean Halley uses a HD 500 simularly on his rig using a 4 cable method and a Bogner Duende. As i watched the video it seemed he was able to change the amp configuration with the midi control within the HD 500
I was wondering if the amp liked pedals. Some amps don't I dont have any drive pedals at this time so I guess I'll borrow a few and play around with it.
I guess I should say that the DT amps are actually 30 amps. Some of them may "like" drive pedals and some may not. It's an amp like any other amp. I guess I just don't understand why people think it's some kind of annomoly that reacts differently.
