Bit-Crushing while direct recording?

I have a POD HD400 that I plugged into USB and I am trying to record it into Garageband 11 (6.0.5) on OSX 10.8.2; my POD's firmware, it's drivers and Monkey are ALL uptodate, Monkey tells me so.
While recording a very simple clean blackface tone, out of the blue I got a sort-of "bit crushing" effect on the recorded audio... and I could not hear that in the headphones (plugged into POD) while playing, only on the recorded track. I selected "stereo 1/2" as input source.

WTF is that and how to prevent getting this on the recorded track???
I can't listen to the sample as I'm at work, but going by your other post, my first suggestion would be to try increasing the buffer size.
That sounds like some sort of interference to me...
Do you have any other USB devices plugged into your computer? One example of how USB streaming can experience the "Acceptable Loss" that is inherent to USB 2.0 streaming mode is having a USB hard drive doing a copy...Bulk Mode takes precedence over a stream...I think usb printers use bulk mode as well...anyway, if you have any printers or hard drive on USB, try removing them...
No storage attached to USB. Only a keyboard and mouse on one USB port but I obviously didn't touch those, and a terratec USB soundcard on another port; could that soundcard be the culprit?
But I never heard that interference before when recording from an apogee jam connected to usb, for example.
Not sure if this was device interference or not...It does not sound like it to me....what's weird to my ears is that it seems to affect the entire mix...Was this more than one track? If so, were all tracks affected the same way if you solo them up?
The only other audible, not-muted track was an imported MP3 backing track with the clicks and a melody, very simple just exported from guitarpro as mp3. I just checked the project, the interferences are ONLY on the guitar-track I recorded from the POD when I solo it; the mp3-track is NOT affected - in the mix it seems to be just taking over everything. Here are the two tracks separated:

Not sure how relevant this is but on the "Line6 Audio-MIDI Devices" preferences page it tells me something like "Sample Rate Converter Active" but it doesn't seem to be active, the LED is red, the garageband project is set to 44.1kHz - the inputs and outputs of hd400 in OSX's audio-midi-setup: 44100Hz 2ch 24bit BUT Garageband is recording at 16bit... could this be a problem?
This may seem overly obvious but just in case the very simple has been overlooked I know that I sometimes forget that if I am too close to a pc or laptop and my pickups are facing it one can get all manner of weird interference anomalies when recording ... so just a reminder to put distance between you and the pc or just turn to the side or face away from it.
I will try that but strangely enough that part happens somewhere in the middle of the song and I wasn't moving around any closer to the PC or anything, and just monitoring via headphones from the pod. No speakers. hmm.
Really, nobody has any idea?
