MKII sounds good ONLY with Line 6 cab??

Hi Folks!

Long time lurker, first time poster here. :-)

For years I've been using a Vetta II with a 5150 cab. Great tone, never a problem. I decided to give the Spider Valve a try because I've heard such great things about it. From using the Vetta for so many years, I'm comfortable with tweaking tones and using the edit software.
However... :-p

I just can NOT seem to get a good, usable tone out of the Spider Valve through the 5150 cab. The gains are very muddy, and oversaturated. (I thought the new FX Infusion would fix it, but it doesn't seem to) I'm able to get some great clean tones, but I've about driven myself nuts fuzzing with trying to get an acceptable gain tone. I've tried it with a Marshall 1960, a Laney cab, and a high dollar Hughes & Kettne I've even tried using a 4x12 loaded with totally flat range Jensens that I used to use back when I had a Rockman setup. That fixed some of the muddiness, but the mids and highs were way too fizzy. Someone told me that the head really doesn't sound all that great unless you use the matching Line 6 cab. Had anyone else run into this? I really don't want to go buying another 4x12 just for this head. I just may be doing something wrong..trying to use it like a Vetta. :-)
Any info would be greatly appreciated. I'd hate to send this poor thing off to Ebay so early in its young life! LOL
Thanks!

Try backing off the on the drive  - that usually helps if the overdrive is muddy/oversaturated.  Also try the full range on the bass & mid controls, and try different settings on the presence (presence usually helps cutting through the mix when playing with others).  Using the Line 6 cab implies using the Celestion Vintage 30's, which I personally don't care for.  I've got the 1x12 combo and get compliments on the tone with an EVM-12L (I use the older one's).  I believe there is a modern Jensen(?) that's close to the EVM also that many here like.  I would certainly say it is possible to get an acceptable tone without using the Line 6 cab.

        +1 on the Jenson...

I am using Jenson Jet Tornados....One of the best guitar speakers i have ever heard...and 4.5 lbs...It sounds nothing like other Neos I have tried...There is a little color to it that I can only describe as Jenson breakup...but it isn't much and not nearly as annoying as Celestion color is to me...

I have been running my Spider Valve thru 2 Ibanez 4x12s each with 2 original speakers and one each of an Eminence Swamp Thang  and Tonker. I do like the sound of the Line 6 spider valve cab with this amp a lot but I really like my sound with this set up too.
