Playback on HD Desktop lacks bass

Hi,
I've been using my desktop Pod HD as an audio interface via USB, and I've noticed that every time, the playback from my computer (assume my guitar isn't even plugged in for this) isn't bassy enough. There's a notable drop in response below 100-150 Hz that I don't get when I plug my headphones directly into my computer. Is there some sort of global EQ setting in the Pod that might be causing this? No control in Setup seems to have any effect on this. Again, this is for playback and monitoring recorded audio, as well as casual music. I'm also 100% sure this isn't application-specific, since I've had the same results with a range of programs, and it doesn't seem likely that Windows would have different EQs for different devices unless I told it to.
I use my HD500 as an audion interface (most of the time).
I cant say I have noticed this problem on the 500. I would say I will have a specific listen put for this when I get home, but knowing me I'll probably start hearing something that I didnt before, which will then bug me. So I'l stick with my original conclusion i.e. "I cant say I have noticed this problem on the 500"
I have the bean. It might be a defect, but I can't imagine what would have to go wrong.
I assume you are in the right output mode (Studio/Direct)?
You could try a firmware re-flash and global settings reset. In some cases this has sorted out a fundamental problem with the sound. Backup your presets first using HD edit. Process follows.
Be ready with your PC and USB cable. Now hold down the 'right' button on the directional keypad and power up the pod. Connect the USB cable and use Line 6 Monkey to flash-update the firmware on the POD. Make sure you choose not to overwrite exisiting presets.
For the global settings reset: hold down the 'left' button on the directional keypad and power up the Pod. If you use this, you will need to check your global settings to make sure they are how you want them. You will also need to recalibrate your expression pedal (details here --> http://line6.com/support/docs/DOC-2223). None of your homemade presets will be lost but your setlist names will be renamed to the default names.
Thanks, but I already tried all that. I'll try resetting with the 'down' button, though.
are you talking about the different sounds you get by connecting the same headphones to the pod and to the computer?
if so, keep in mind that sometimes, to the audio output of some computers is applied a bass boost effect, which probably can be turned off ..
and also, the computer internal headphones amplifier and the one in the POD are different, so you can expect some further sound differences ..
I can't find any software settings for that, but it might be in the headphone amp itself. I could make an EQ to compensate for it when I don't have my pod. But the bass definitely sounds louder than it should be with direct output, so thanks for the suggestion. I never thought of it that way.

I don't know which computer you have: pc or mac..
but for example with Windows, there is often a background application that starts automatically when you turn on your computer, it serves to manage the internal sound card driver, some specific settings, maybe some "wow" or "extra bass" effects and some accessory services, often its control panel (if any) is accessible from the systray in the lower right of the screen near to the clock, or alternatively you can find it in the main control panel of windows..
I'm on a PC laptop. My sound card is from RealTek. It doesn't look like they have any sound card management software installed.
Wait, no, I found it. It was in a configuration tab that I'd missed before, and it was from Dolby. Cheeky bastards. I disabled it, and not only is my bass where it should be, but the stereo depth feels a bit wider (which probably had something to do with the surround sound settings, which I don't use).
That settles it, then. I wondered why there wasn't anything else about this already, but the problem is with my computer, not the pod. Thanks for setting me on the right track.
Nice catch Hurganico. Those enhanced surround sound drivers are a royal pain in the butt and always seem to make things sound worse.

very true!
generally, I always hated all the applications that start automatically without my approval ..
as soon as they try to install itself I immediately fulminate them..![]()
All's well that ends well ![]()
