Is there any benefit or drawback to using the XLR out from the receiver to the 1/4" input of an amp?

Reason for asking:I get slight but a noticeable background noise increase when using the line 6 XD V55HS receiver as opposed to a chord. I notice it when pluging the unit in to the amp. As soon as the plug is seated the noise increase happens. If I unplug the unit it stops. It's slight but still noticeable. I was wondering if using the XLR instead of the 1/4" would help. I haven't tried it because I don't have a XLR to 1/4" adapter.
