Pod hd and pedals

Hi guys,
I'm looking at the pod hd recently and i would like to know how it works with external pedals/overdrives. First of all, i have never used line 6 products but always tube amps. In this particular moment i can't use anymore tube amps for playing or recording (small apartment/no band) so i would use the pod for recording and i would like to use my analog overdrives on a clean sim amp straight to my mbox. At present i'm using an amt tube preamp plugged to the soundcard but i'm not so satisfied.Any experience?
I have read several posts regarding people that use external pedals. I cant explicitly recal whether they discuss the 'hows' or if they just mention they are used. If no answers are forthcoming it may be worth a search (in fact some of the links that appear on the right hand side under the heading "more like this" may well assist.
HD 300 has no effect loop. Won't work with external pedals. The ones it comes with(virtual) are very good though!
It seems the pod hd 500 will do this but i can't find satisfying answers to my problem..
I'm not sure what exactly you're asking. You can use external pedals with the HD500 and it generally works fine. What pedals are you thinking of using with it?
I want to know if the pod hd 500 works with external overdrives.. That's all.. What you mean with "generally"?
I mean "generally" in the sense that external pedals will work the way you'd expect them to. There are some details you'll have to deal with if you use the FX loop for pedals, but even then it's not a big deal. Personally, I've used a few different overdrives in front of the HD500 and in its loop, and I liked the results. The amp models react very well to external pedals.
The PODHD comes with a 100 differant effects/pedals built in, atleast the HD500, Pro, and Desktop does. You probably won't need the pedals you've been using because they're already built into the PODHD.
Work very good, and also, have so much options and effects/drives that you can emulate very well the analog tones, more if the use will be in a room. Maybe the big differences are in live contexts, but in homestudio, rooms or practices with a band are no so far away to the real things. If you know the POD HD, and work with the machine, I think that you can do "magic", depend more from the user than to the machine.
Also is important the speaker that you use, for example for me the best speaker for the POD HD in live/bands contexts are the Celestion V30. But now I am very happy with the result with flat speakers (and more range freqs), you can use for example the cabs emulations and have a similar sound to the albums (for example try to emulate the sound of Lynch from Dokken album).
All depend what do you want, for sure that you can have that sound that you have in mind if you know use well the POD HD.
Greetings and good luck!
Sorry but i disagree. I use a timeline delay, a bluesky reverb, and a decent valve dirt box (H&K tubeman) with my hd500. they are either far more versatile (timeline) or sound far better (all three) than anything on the pod. not that i don't like the pod, it is splendid (apart from usb port). I use the dirt in the pods loop (after wah, compressor and before amp) and the delay and reverb after pod before mixer/soundcard. works perfectly. wish i could say the same about the usb port.

Still a little unsure why you cant find anything on the subject... arent these posts related to your question for example:

Thank you for the replies.. Today i have tried the pod into a guitar shop but i'm not so impressed also because the factory preset don't sound so good on my opinion.. Did you have the same feeling when you tried it for the first time?
The factory presets aren't very good for the most part. The unit is capable of sounding much better once you make it your own patches suited to your tastes.
Bought it.. Another happy user!
gratz
