Using POD HD 500 to vocals and Harmonica!?

Hi folks!

 

 

So , I´m just a newbie using the POD and electronic devices.

 

And, my main instrument is the harmonica, so can I play my harp and sing sending my mic vocal signal to one channel , left or right( to the PA via XLR) and the other harp signal to another (my amp via p10 )?

    yes, you can..

    just make a dual patch and keep the 2 channels A and B separate by not putting anything in pre-split path..

    also leave the pan settings hard left and right respectively for the 2 channels (paths)..

    you'll need also to select the right input settings for each channel to enable your mic etc..

      Ok, but whats the pre-split path?

       

      And how to pan the channels? For example I got this patch:

      Ok, this patch got me vocais and harmonica (via guitar input using transformar as I´ve said earlier). But I have no idea how to pan each channel.

       

      And can I setup the harmonica out to left P10 ( to my amp) and the vocals to right XLR out to PA?

    Are you using two mics (one for vocals and a different one for harp) or just one mic (for both vocals and harp)? Either way there's a wrinkle. If you want to use two mics the wrinkle is that the HD500 has only one mic input. If you're using one mic the wrinkle is how to have the HD500 differentiate between your singing and your harp playing.

     

    For the one mic scenario you could use two different presets, both with Input 1 = MIC and Input 2 = any unused physical input. Configure one preset to process your vocals and pan the output fully Left. Connect the L XLR output to your PA. Use the second preset to process your harp. Pan everything fully R and route the R XLR (or 1/4" output) to your amp. Avoid using stereo effects in both presets.

     

    For the two mic scenario you could experiment with using the Aux input for your harp; you would still set up two presets but for the harp preset set Input 1 = Aux. You may some trouble getting this mic to provide a strong enough signal to the Aux input.

     

    In both cases you will need to use a footswitch to toggle between the presets as you move between singing and playing harp.

      I´ll use the XLR input for the voice mic and the guitar input to my harp mic ( using a impedance match transformer with a XLR in and P10 out for cable use or via P10 out from my wireless system).

       

      So in this way is this the best option using this input setup, right?

       

      Another question: Can I use simultaneous effects for each channel? For example: Can I sing AND play harmonica and same time running different effects for each one?

       

      I´m still lost but is going better!

        in this case you can make a simple (dual) patch, set input1 to guitar and input2 to mic, go to the mixer block in the chain and set pan A full left and pan B full right (by default in a empty new patch they are set already like that) to have one instrument only on the left output and the other one only on the right output..

         

        you can and you must (in this case) use separate effects on each channel/path... just don't put anything in pre-split path (the first path on the left in the chain) if you want to keep separate your channels, because if you put effects in pre-split path they will be shared between the 2 channels and also the 2 channel will be mixed together on both L and R outputs..

          Hi hurghanico, thanks again!

           

          Please see the patch attached here!

           

          If you load the patch file I want to attach I´ll see that the chains are splitted since the first left block ( I didn´t made it, I found it and still can´t construct one like this). But I still dont know how to pan the channels, one to the left another to the right!!

            I opened your file with my HD500 Edit program..

            I did a screenshot and I indicated with red arrows the points where you can do the settings you need..

            (clik on the pic to zoom-in)

            click on the MIXER tab and do your settings with the indicated knobs..

            you have also to set appropriately your two inputs sources, I indicated where too..

             

            if you want make new patches with 2 separate channels you have to: choose your effects and move them into the rectangle attached to the mixer block, up or down depending on which channel you need them..

             

            all the settings can be done also directly on your HD500 using the multifunction physical knobs and switches controls avaible..
