JTV 89 Failed Flash Update.

Took the plunge, bought an JTV 89 and it arrived today.

Spent about 30 to 45 minutes playing it and getting to know it before deciding to update it.

Went through the checklist before updating and made sure my HD500/drivers etc were all up to date too.

However, the update failed and I retried a good 10 times to no avail.

From that point, I had no sound coming out of the guitar.....all the appropriate lights turn on and off when activated, just no sound.

Decided to try updating via the supplied USB hub with the battery etc making sure I also had a jack plugged in, but after installing all the required drivers, my PC found the hub, but couldn't find the JTV.

Hooked it back up to the HD500 and realised there was sound coming out when I had the jack lead in, but not from the mag pick ups, the sound was coming from the piezo but changing the blade or tone position made no difference to the sound, only the volume was working and Monkey couldn't find the JTV.

Is there anything I can do to factory reset the guitar without having to reflash it? Because obviously I can't reflash it because it's just not being recognised.

Anything else I can try before giving Line 6 a call first thing?

I feel for you man. Call Line 6 or swap it out where you bought it.

Yup had my line6 duds as well. 3 UX8's, 2 POD 3 Live and 1 DT25. I get to wondering if the store I buy from hates them.

i seem to remember a version 1 variax trick of holding down model select...

but highly doubt the same works on the jtv's because the knobs are alot more multifunctional to begin with.

anyway just thought i'd mention it in case it helps jog a memory or 2 out there....

Try a generic ethernet cable (maybe you have a bad cable).

You may want to pull the battery out first and put it back in just to "reset" things... You never know...

What are the LEDs doing on the workbench USB adapter?

Do you actually have a MIDI interface or device in your computer?  Monkey seems to get very confused by certain sound cards.  I typically run Variax Workbench and firmware updater in a VMware Windows XP machine hosted on Linux.  Unless the virtual sound card is disabled, Monkey hangs hard while searching for (non-existent) MIDI devices.  I've seen several postings here that suggest this can happen with real hardware as well.  You haven't said whether you're on a PC or Mac platform, but if the audio can be disabled from the BIOS setup that may work around the errors you mention.

FWIW, once the firrmware update has been done I can re-enable the sound and Workbench runs fine.  It appears to be only the firmware updater that has issues.
